Price gouging

I can't believe so many people are selling the Gh1 with a 50%-100% mark up. Are people really THAT desperate they can't wait? Holy crap. Patience is virtue.

Well don't expect to walk in and buy this camera anytime soon, I'm talking until next year. All online stores are still filling hundreds of preorders and next big shipment from Panasonic is September. Those units will probably go to preorders people.

You won't have to wait til the new year to get that camera. I just called a reseller today and he said that ONLY 100 people pre-ordered and they have a shipment of 200 schedluled to arrive soon. (He didn't know when.) So, if most retailers or reputable dealers follow this trend of ordering more than their pre-orders they'll be PLENTY around to scoop up.

Not to mention people ordering from several places then cancelling the orders not required when the first one gets delivered. Pretty hard for the dealers to know how many to get in.

Patience is definitely a virtue, I'm guessing there will be plenty to go around once the next best thing from Canon/Nikon drops.

That's fantastic news. This cam wasn't even on my radar last week and now I want two of them for my production business. Mind PMing me the reseller?

seriously there used to be a few on ebay. some were being sold by time2envy a company that is notorious for selling grey market cameras. and they were selling the gh1 for over 2000 dollars. dont remember the price but i too cant believe people are trying to take advantage of people like that. especially with usa's economy doing so badly.

Supply and demand I guess. I don't think you'll find any retailer right now willing to part with the GH1 for MSRP. I guess those who need it now will need to pay a premium while the rest of us wait.

That's how business works. It's not taking advantage of people if you have something they want and you make a profit. I don't want to pay such a large premium, so I can be patient if I end up getting one. I'd assume most people think like that.

But really, why is the shortage?
Didn't Panny expect the Gh1 to be a hot seller?
This is a consumer camera, shouldn't production numbers be higher than pro division?

Because for the price its turned off a lot of buyers? Still photography-wise I think the E-P1 is outselling it... not to mention cameras like the Canon 500D and Nikon D5000.

Apparently not. If it turned off a lot of buyers there wouldn't be a shortage... And it's easy for other cameras to outsell it when the units are in such short supply. I mean, I'm not saying that it would out sell the bigger contenders like Canon and Nikon if there were more units available, but there's a shortage, so it has no chance at the moment, regardless of demand.

I was talking to a camera shop employee person yesterday and she was telling me that Panasonic are having troubles with a lot of their products, shortage-wise. Is this true? Are they not manufacturing at full-steam?

For all we know the FBI and the CIA have been buying up the GH1 by the truckload and creating the USA shortage. For stealthy night video it must be pretty handy to those guys. And in full auto mode, you don't need to know too much about how to work it to get a remarkable result.

Let me guess JR? They told me the same story back in June they would have 200 cameras in July and still none prorders have been filled. I guess most of you guys have scored Crutchfield ones by now.
