Price drop?

With some new competitors arriving around September, it is anticipated that the hpx250 price will drop. Do you think the much older hmc150 will drop in price, or possibly be discontinued?

Hi Firehawk

The only price drop I seem to notice on cameras is during the first 6 months of release!! I would think the 150's have pretty much bottomed out by now and new cameras will not affect the price...I bought HMC82's 3 years ago when they came out at nearly $3K each and I have just replaced them for a second time and paid a mere $1900 all up for each camera!! When the AC-130/160 came out the 150's never budged BUT the AC-130 and 160 release prices here have already dropped from $4400 right down to $3800 for the 160!! I have been watching the 150 prices as well and the only variation here is due to the US$ ...Again when the 150's were released they were at least $1K more than they are now!!! As for being discontinued? Who knows...they are still manufactured so one can only assume they are still current?? I guess you could wait until October but I think the only thing that will drop will be the new releases after a few months on the market.
The 150 at the current price is still an awesome buy and all the issues have been sorted a long time ago, very much unlike the 130 and 160 ...If I needed a 150 I think I would just look for a good price and get it..at the current prices it's still darn good value for money!!

Don't know where you're seeing that price; B&H is listing the AC160A for $4,879. The AC160 has been discontinued of course, replaced with the AC160A, but $3800 for either sounds like some fishy gray-market place or something...

Hi Barry

That's our local price here for the PAL model so it was purely to show Firehawk that between the first release and currently how the price dropped drastically!!! I was merely pointing out that the HMC150 over the last 6 months hasn't shifted much in price but the new cameras started off high and dropped a fair bit. His concern wasn't the actual price but simply whether it was likely to drop following the usual Fall new releases. The BIG question still remains for Firehawk ..Is the HMC150 price going to drop at all in the next couple of months or not??

Chris

Ive been watching the hmc150 closely. Been creeping down in price. Was 2995 a month ago. Now it just dropped to 2895, after being 2960, 2949, 2930, 2925, 2899. BH and adorama seem to really watch each other. I wonder if it's going to keep dropping? Im going to get a couple of these, but I can't decide whether to wait a bit more.

Hi Firehawk

By now you should know how things work!! You watch and watch prices fluctuate up and down and decide that next Monday is the day!! The salesman says to you when you walk into the store "Sorry, Sir, our special offer finished on Friday!!" When you need them then buy them..I wanted a PAL HMC40 for my stedicam and delayed and delayed getting one and now my dealer doesn't stock them anymore!!
