Hi,
I have a very intriguing question?
Will the price of HVX200 drop after NAB 2008.
I read at some other forums that price of P2 cards will definitely drop..may b 16Gig will come to $700 ...

any ideas?

just curious..

Curious, my crystal ball says yes. Traditionally everything technology related drops in price.
The question is, how much money can you make while waiting for a small price drop? That's how I base my business decisions. One hour of our shoot rate beats a couple hundred dollars in savings.

Honestly nobody other than Panasonic knows how much, when or even IF. And Panisonic wouldn't say anyways.
Could be months or a year away. The price could go down $100 or $500.
The biggest thing I would expect to happen though is added value, i.e. free card/training material type promotoins.

Since NAB is only 2 months away, if you don't need it today, I'd suggest waiting till after NAB since that's when new announcements are often made. That might help you not be so nervous.
Good luck.

I agree with you..was just wondering whether this price drop will be just after the NAB or may be few months after...what does history suggest?

The time for Panasonic to compete against the Sony EX is now, before the Sony gets much of a foothold. So my guess is Panasonic is already going full guns on Sony with its lowered price and free 16gig card. Of course, all bets are off if a HVX200B come out, but even then it will need to remain competitive with Sony.

History suggests that there is no correlation whatsoever between a trade show and a price drop, per se. There may be a price drop based on introducing new products, but pricing and conventions have little to do with each other. Prices are set based on sales targets and competition, not on trade shows (although a trade show can be a convenient place to make an announcement, yes).

NAB2006 and 2007 both came and went with no price change in the HVX. But NAB 2007 did bring a price drop in the 8GB P2 cards (but probably only because the 16GB card was introduced at the same time). I expect that may happen again; it's possible the 64GB card will be introduced at NAB and that may lead to drops for the 32 and 16.

The DVX100 got a $1,000 price drop last year, but it was unrelated to any show anywhere.

Point is, price changes will happen at any time, whenever the company feels like an adjustment is necessary. There is no direct correlation with any particular show or exhibition that happens, although NAB does usually mean new product introductions and those can mean price drops on other products. It's just not a given is all.

I would love the price for the camera to drop in price. So I can buy another easier. But most of all a big , big, drop in P2 cards.
64 gig cards at 16 gig prices. That's still pricey but it would win more video/cine cameramen.

Amen.
I think we are getting there, slowly but surely.
