Price advice on DVX

I don't know where else to postthis. I am starting to shop for a used DVX, and would like help from anyone who cares to venture an opinion.

If I am willing to wait up to two months (shopping on ebay, watching the forums) , what is the likely best price I will see on a DVX100? How about the A model?

My thought is $1800, or 2000 for an A. are prices I should be content with paying. Is this a reasonable assumption? I don't want to bid too high too soon, if cheap ones pop up from time to time. And I don't want to miss the bargain of the year because I don't have enough experience in pricing the used market. All help appreciated.

I guess it depends on the camera and hours'' , I wouldn't sell mine for less than $2500, Since I bought it new If It ever got to the point where I felt the camera had nothing left to offer ( good luck ) and I was going to get hosed on it's sale; I'd sooner put it in a display case to look back at it in awe....

I don't understand why people pay $2500 for a used one. It seems to me the warranty, the book, and the software are worth about $500, which makes new and used effectively the same (albeit with more cash out for the new one). So I guess I better keep my eyes peeled and adjust my expectations a little (or buy a nice cheap PD150 for $1500)

even at 2500 your saving apx 700.00 off an authorized dealer price .. if its a well kept machine that 700.00 can go towards a number of other things that people need to make a quality production. microphone- lighting- post software- food for the next couple months.. you know. ... the important stuff...

actually if you were to get it new from an authorized dealer you would be spending about $3200.00 after the rebate of $300.00 + $280 for tax ( california example ) + another $50-100 for shipping + 2 extra batteries $100+, and an extended warranty . so with averaging out the shipping charge you'd be paying $4000 up front and then sending in your rebate $300 less. Many people selling used would probably throw in extra's relating the cam specifically batteries / dvx book-dvd,. I don't know about you but an extra $1500+ is a lot of $$.... especially since half the used cam's that go on this board are from people who thought it would be great to have the cam but decided that if it wasn't going to be heavily used than it's better to get some cash back... so the hours are probably 20-100.... just my thought's, if I were to buy again I would probably buy used,

I'll be selling mine next month, and I wont let it go for less than $2500. That will include the DVX book and DVD, plus 3 batteries. I'd say it probably has about 20 hours tops on it.

I figure if you found one for sale around 1500 - 2000 it would probably be:

1) sold by someone who is a complete idiot and doesnt know what they have.

2) sold by someone very very desperate for some money.

3) stolen

4) a vapor sale. You send in your money and thats the last you would see of anything.

Well Nick you are right to some extent. TO compare, shipping is shipping, sales tax doesn't exist if I mail order or net order, and extended warranties are certainly a vlaue if the used cam has one. SO I guess I should take my $2000 goal and add $300 for extended warranty and $100 for batteries if they are included. That gets me up to $2400 target, not so far from $2500 if the extras are included. I better read the ads with that in mind. Good Points.

Mark, I am hoping for #2. (or maybe #1). Did you get an extended warranty on your cam?

I saw the DVX100A in this months Pop Photography at Digital Liquidators for "Monthly Special" for like $1549. What a deal!!! Since no one else will do anything about these scums, we should all pick a mail order dealer of the month to **** with. Everyone on here call them at least once a day. Could be fun. Could at least give us all something new to talk about. And maybe, if we keep their lines busy enough it will keep some naive, poor unknowing schmuck from making the mistake of his video life...

For what it's worth, I bought a new DVX100A last week at B&H for $3400 after the $300 Panasonic rebate good through the end of this month, it comes to $3100. If you ship anywhere but NY you do not pay sales tax.

I have confidently bought and sold many items for the Canon XL on the DVInfo.net site classifieds. I would also think, now that I have a new DVX100A, I would feel very comfortable purchasing items listed here, We all get to know each other's professional reputations in these forums. So I trust someone with a lots of posts here with their reputation at stake much more than I would trust someone unknown on ebay.

But I have seen scams or unseemly sellers on both these forums and they are usually from people who have not spent much time actively involved in these discussions. They are most often easily recognized by the people who actively follow the posts here. If it sounds like too good of a deal, it usually is. Something will start to smell funny and that can cost you more than the going rate for a new or used camera. So please be careful on what you are buying. Buy confidently from the shops or the people with good reputations you have come to know through this site.

For those looking for a lower price of entry on the DVX, one thought is to consider looking for a deal on a used dvx100 instead of a dvx100a. bet that would save a few hundred bucks.

Attorney General (NYC) can help. He answers all the letters and thiefs are afraid of him.
I got my money back when somebody screwed me :) Thanks to Attorney General.
