Pretty damn QUIET in here.......

I agree with both of these last takes

I don't think I'm being nostalgic about this

Trying to have genuine conversations regarding filmmaking or cinema in general is very difficult and unfulfilling with modern social media as mentioned, how it all just disappears into the void.

I have this brand new re-found fire and love for cinema, filmmaking, editing, and cinematography and no one talk to about it with. 😂

A lot of what you're posting on Facebook, but not here, could spark a lot of conversation here. 😎

I'm going to try and and post here more often Facebook is dead anyway. Or not necessarily just dead, but not a lot of film stuff on my Facebook page if you know what I mean

I recently joined an A.I. cinema forum. I’ve had some of the best discussions there and made many close friends.

Funny.

I speak with chatGPT ~11 hours per day, you don't want to knock it, might change your life
If you’re speaking with chatGPT for 11 hours a day, it’s definitely changed your life.

It’s unfortunate how swiftly the active members have fallen here. I was recently thinking of upgrading my camera set up and in googling about the C300 Mark III came upon this thread:

Kinda shocking how folks just aren’t here anymore, especially people who posted a lot (Chris F, puredrifting, Abe Halpert) I especially miss Abe because the tit for tat with Norbro was funny at times.

It’s amazing that people can rewire behavioral patterns so quickly…

Was it quickly though? Many were around for 5-10+ years...I think everything runs its course.

I've said this before but I'll say it again anyway because I truly believe it.

I think you need to be the change you want to see in the world.

If people want more discussion here, and it sounds like at least some do, then people need to start more threads, ask more questions, reach out for help, provide constructive criticism or wisdom, post random thoughts, stir $#*t up, etc.

It's too easy to assume someone else will do "it". You/we have to do it ourselves.

Not a rant at anyone here, just a point of discussion in the perfect place to discuss things. ;)

Abe got banned, I've seen puredrifting commenting on YouTube videos.

There are several recent threads where people are sharing work and no one is saying anything, 1-2-3 comments.

Nothing will help, it is over.

Even in the best days, at least in my run, the longest and biggest threads were always about new cameras (which branched off into all kinds of havoc), especially speculation and test footage.

The best days were really when the beginning of what became RED was hanging here.

Some very smart people shared a lot of information on this forum.

That being said, my favorite moment was probably the HVX200 frame rate hack, unlocking features within a camera in some pirated way ala magic lantern felt pretty exciting, especially back then, and DVXUser was the epicenter.

Some of that a little before my time (or missed it)...REDuser was already crazy when I started posting frequently, but maybe caught some DVX100B conversations and a few GH2/5D Mark II hacks later, but most of my experience was during what likely will forever be the most unique time in camera production history with mirrorless' and sub-$15K (then $10K) cinema cameras starting to take over, 2012-2020.

Everything is fantastic now; nothing to scratch and claw for and hope for and dream about.

tell pure to get back on here (he had like one post after a year or two hiatus but stayed away)

What about AI causing the forums to be obsolete? I hate to say it but I feel like more and more people are using AI for answers which are scraped off forums like this one. That's fine I guess but what about complex discussions that happen after a firmware update etc. I feel like we are dumming down an astronomical rate. :(

I don't know any of you, but a long while back this place was a really great resource for learning, and hearing feedback. I'm just a hobbyist, but it was nice to read the thoughts of people working on things in a more serious capacity. I upgraded my camera recently, and started googling for simple answers to my new questions...the top recommended links were still derived from this forum...which is interesting.

I still really like the forum format over FB, or Reddit personally. Maybe I should start a thread:)

I joined forums before YT and when one had some oddball question.. like tuning the highlights of an EX1 onr could arrive and ask.

I then got dragged into some social chatter and it was nice.

Now I litereally have no idea how to answer and odball question - here there are not enough users, facboon youpube and the others are just full of brand ambassadoucrs.

My current question.. R5mk2 is 'soft' in regular not 'fine' mode, what about the performance at 50p in crop mode?

The question is probably too niche for the small userbase here.
