I need to write a bio for a press kit. What should I include? Can anyone maybe show me a good example? I've also got to forward this (hopefully soon to be learned) knowledge to my cast and crew, and who knows how long they'll take, so time is of the essence. Please help. Thanks a lot.

ideally, have someone else write it. this is one I had written for me. i couldn't have spoken about myself in this way, but i know it's more effective than what i would have written...

"Zak Forsman is an American independent filmmaker whose emotionally-charged work is known for highly authentic performances and beautiful compositions. Ain’t It Cool News recently praised his work as “...brilliant...” and “...absolutely gorgeous...”. His stories often depict compelling human threads in a poetic and minimalist style. They reflect deep sympathy for the brokenness of people, and a profound humanism. In 2005, he collaborated on the indie feature, “Blue in Green”, as part of the Unica Collaborative. More recently he wrote and directed the feature motion picture, “Heart of Now” (currently in post) and the short film, “I poo pooing Hate You”. He is currently developing two new features for production in 2009 and 2010 respectively. (www.zakforsman.com)"

From what I've read elsewhere there have been implications of a bit more length required. Luckily as an actor I've had to write a number of bios for playbills, so I sort of took that and ran with it a bit. Here's what I had written this morning (this is for a press kit for the film "ReLife", which was written and directed by Ryan Cerutti, and which I had acted in, produced, edited and scored partially):

Anthony Misiano (Producer, Actor, Composer, Editor) first worked with Ryan Cerutti and Beyond Reality Pictures in 2005 on a project titled, “Point of View” as a co writer and director. He later joined the team again as an actor appearing in numerous projects. As time went by his part with BRP grew to eventually include the titles editor, composer, and producer. As a San Diego based actor he has appeared in dozens of productions around town and can be seen every Thursday night on “The House”, a two time Tele Award Winning local sketch comedy program. He also works steadily as a photographer and videographer, and occasionally even designs playbills for local theatre companies. Some of his more notable stage credits include playing Romeo, in “Romeo & Juliet”, Picasso in “Picasso at the Lapin Agile”, Wade in “Mr. Wade is Dead”, Sebastian in “Twelfth Night”, Antipholus of Syracuse in “A Comedy of Errors”, Gary in “Noises Off”, Howard in “Moon Over Buffalo”, and a number of others. On camera he has worked on numerous student film projects for SDSU and Grossmont College, as well as appearing as Jack in Jason Johnson’s “D&D”. "Life is the love of passions untold, let it rain on your face, and wind carry your soul. And breathe."

Hi Anthony,

It doesn't sound like you have time to read a recommended book or get professional help so here's a few links:

http://ukfilm.org/features/creating-a-press-kit

http://www.learnaboutmovieposters.com/NewSite/INDEX/ARTICLES/presskit.asp

Next time you'll want to consider distribution elements much earlier.

Good luck, Michael
