jlames- Are you still on the board? I have a question I think you can answer not that the others here aren't competent but it's along the lines we were talking about and you haven't been around the lot lately.

hmmm...something going on with you two? If there is, I just want to say I think you guys would make an adorable couple...

Well with my wife, that'd make three!!! 1) I've been innundated putting the show together and 2) why didn't you call me on cell? Joyce and I saw you at the Director's Guild this evening but were on our way out and didn't want to hang a U on Sunset. What's up? PM or e-mail me or if it's something the group can help with, post it.

Thanks for the answer this morning Jonathan and so here's the question I had because he said the group may be able to answer it better. If the JVC is supposed to be able to output 4:2:2, why don't they supply a recorder, like the Firestore, that accepts that signal. I'll be needing to do alot of chromakeying in our first production for children and the tape drive is just not adequate. Does anyone know of a detachable unit. I just though Jonathan would because of his industry and specialty.

Filmgirl,

The only thing I can think of right now would be the Waifan (sp?) recorder, which is around $15K or so, but I might be wrong. It records in the Cineform codec.

Your other option would be to use a convertor that goes from Analog component HD to HDSDI and then record on a HD deck like the Panasonic 1200a DVCPro HD deck. I know this is what Canon did when they shot their Watchmaker Promo for the Canon XLH1 camera.

Keep up updated as to what you work out.

Yes, that sounds promissing, Steve, bit is also a ways off in production I understand from their site.

jlames, you're right. I guess we can only hope.
If this becomes a reality, especially at this price point, this may open the doors
for competition.

We have Matrox and NLE Systems working on one right now for us specific to a show we're producing. Principle starts next week in Tunica, MS so I'll know if it becomes a reality before then...of course that's only a week off. Nothing like cutting things close!

Filmgirl - Have you tried to record some key footage (green/blue screen) with thte HD100 to tape?

Even though it records 4.2.0 you might be suprised at the keys you can get because it records in true progressive and you don't have those interlace stair steps you usually get with interlaced footage.
