Premiere to Avid

Hey all! I am shifting from Premiere to Avid because I mostly shoot on HD and HDV and Premiere is not that good on these formats... it renders a lot and causes me a lot of problems... Its capturing is not so good either. So I thought of shifting to Avid because currently I don't have money to shift to a MAC. Im from Pakistan and here I can get Avid a lot cheaper than u guys (im not mocking, seriously)... My question is:

I mostly work on my Sony Z1 HDV... I am about to make a feature film as my thesis project (Im a film student). I have this system:

Intel Duo Core 3.0 Processor
3GB RAM
500 GB Hard Disk
Nvidia (dunno wich model) 512 MB vga memory.

Is it worth it?

And for which version of Avid should i go for? I have been working on Premiere CS3 and CS4... but yeah they have their own problems.

Please Help me out... Thanks in advance

I have 2 Avid Media Composers on PC, and Premiere CS4 on my laptop, so I have experience with both. I view (no offense to anyone) Premiere as a 'toy' that I edit home videos with. The effects are much simplier, but it does a nice job for what I use it for. However, for business, I only cut with my 2 Media Composers. For me it is much easier to do what I need to do, also you will only need to render effects on MC, which should speed you up. MC is a much 'deeper' product.

Sharry, before you upgrade to MC please verify with Avid that your PC is up to specification. Avid is a little tricky with whats needed, I would not veer at all from their specifications. For reference, I have a friend with 2 MC's on Mac, and they are EXACTLY like mine on the PC. You dont need to go Mac as long as your PC fits Avid suggested specs.

By the way, Media Composer is offering student versions which can later be upgraded for a song, check www.avid.com. I should also mention that Avid is giving you access to download a 30 day free trial http://forms.avid.com/forms/MC4TrialEng, try it and see for yourself. I suggest you have a project or promo to do, that way you can see it under 'real world' workflow. There's a link in this forum for AVID TUTORIALS which should get you started.
