Just a heads up. Suppose to fix a lot of plug-in problems, hopefully it does. (Color Finesse PI, proDAD Mercalli, etc)

Also adds REDCODE support.

On first glance, the AVCHD support is *amazing*. Full-screen, full-quality, 720/24p and 720/60p. No "preview" mode, no dropped frames. And that's being edited on a LAPTOP.

I've tried the Avid import on a 30 minute reality TV pilot (6 83 minute tapes) and it works just as any other AAF would. There are some issues with crossfades not coming in, etc.. (the small stuff) but it works damn well. It's amazing. AVID CAPTURED DV FOOTAGE SUPPORTED BY PREMIERE! .VOB EDITING! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

RED workflow looks AMAZING too!

I have to say, since CS4, Adobe has really been pushing to add some really amazing features. It seems like they are REALLY listening and I applaud them for really trying. FCP import, Avid Import, amazing RED workflow, large projects open A LOT FASTER... these guys are on a roll.

I hope they continue to listen and continue to add great new features, make the program more stable, and keep kicking ass. AVC-I is planned so I hear and I can't wait to see what's next.

Great stuff and keep up the good work! Oh, and please give us the ability to export our Premiere projects to either AUDITION or Soundbooth as a MULTITRACK project! That's all that's missing. As for now, I'll just use Vegas for my sound via AAF.

I got two streams of 720/60p with no dropped frames; 3 with only slight dropping. Full-screen, full quality.

It looks like AVC-Intra is included with the new 4.1 update. If you create a new sequence and click on the general tab, you will see the new Red Cinema and AVC-Intra editing modes in the drop down.

And it did fix the problem with passing frames to plug-ins which use external interfaces.

Adobe seems to have done a great job on this one.

Well, those presets are there, but there is not AVC-Intra support from PPro CS4 yet...I tried importing some footage and it doesn't come in.

This was my only real disapponitment with the update (along with the program monitor freeze issue). I was really hoping for that support as I'm looking at getting an HPX-300...hopefully Adobe will come through with an update soon that provides native support. They were showing it working at NAB, but I guess it's not ready yet.

I noticed that the sample 720P HMC150 footage didn't immediately work on my system either. I guess it was needing to conform the audio or something. When I came back to the computer after a minute or so the clip played back great. On my weak laptop. Have to find some sample AVC-Intra footage to try out.

Well, the frame export option is still screwed up. I don't know why they make you open up an entirely different menu to export a frame.

Also I'm still running into the bug where AME will export the entire sequence instead of just the work area. How'd they screw that up?

I believe it was more complicated before the 4.1 update - not as smooth or easy as CS3 or previous versions, but easier now.

I believe that's a known issue - check the readme file for the 4.1 update.

You can do a multitrack edit in soundbooth allready using the .asnd format.

And I'm really hoping that the next installment of Audition wil support the format!!!

Thanks Eric, I found the work-around for the work area issue in the readme, although I dislike the extra step. It's still very annoying though that Adobe continues to take a "one step forward, two steps back" approach to updating the program. There was nothing wrong with the way frame export worked in the last few versions, and they changed it for apparently no reason.

How do you save your Premiere project as an .asnd file? I just tried but can't find anything for that.

When I mentioned that, I was talking about a way to get your Premiere project's audio files set up in a multitrack project like they are in the Premiere timeline.

As far as I know, you can't but if I'm wrong, please let me know.

Thanks!

You actually use Dynamic Link to open up the Premiere Pro sequence in Soundbooth. Create a new multitrack file in Soundbooth then click on File/Adobe Dynamic Link/Import Premiere Pro Sequence. Select your sequence in the finder or explorer window and your sequence will be brought in to work on.

Right, but as far as I know, that doesn't open it up as a multitrack project. It brings in all the audio as one track. Kinda useless for real sound work. :(

I would have to agree. Unless you are creating a SoundBooth score to match up with a finished sequence, the dynamic link feature for importing an entire PP sequence does not appear that useful yet. It might be better to just import the individual clips that need audio work directly and outputting an ASND file to link back up in your PP sequence. Check out this thread on how others are working around this limitation.

Perhaps CS5 will give us the type of interaction with individual clips that we really want. Maybe we'll even get to use VST or other third party plugins. One can dream.
