Premiere Pro CS 4.1 Timecode

I have a couple of HMC-150's that we have shot a few events (weddings) with and really love them. Just this week we tried out the timecode sync for a 2 camera wedding reception. I just noticed that when I import the clips into Premiere CS 4.1 that there is no timecode. Well there is timecode but it is generated by premiere because all individual clips start at 00;00;00;00. Is this a known issue with premiere or is there a setting that I do not have correct somewhere???

Thanks

Phil

OK, just a little update....

I just took one of my cards that had 100 min of video and converted it to P2 with the Main Concept converter and the timecode is there. So it must be that Premiere does not support timecode with AVCHD. Why they would support a format halfway is beyond me. For a lot of my projects the timecode really is not all that important to me, but for some it is very important. It really surprises me that they would not allow it to read the TC. Hopefully there is just something that I am missing still, but I do not think so since it worked just fine after being converted to P2.

Your conclusion is correct, premiere does not know how to pull timecode information from the AVCHD files (yet can from DVCProHD from the transcoder). Very upsetting as this is simply one number stored in each clip's metadata. They have really been pushing the whole metadata concept in the new software, yet they don't support it at all for one of their newly advertised formats.

AFAIK, the only work around is to manually set the timecode for each clip in premiere... not fun, but may be worthwhile for multi-cam.

True, not the biggest loss, but hopefully a concern more people voice since timecode has always been an essential part of video. A proper metadata solution would also provide many useful benefits with their software. I must say, that I'm glad they at least focused on getting the stream files working, timecode would have been useless if we still couldn't edit. :)

I just submited a Bug report to Adobe about it. Hopefully more people will and they can get this resolved.

I also submited a Feature Request that the Import Function in Premiere will stitch together the spanned clips for AVCHD as it does for P2 and XDCAM EX.
