Premiere Pro CC S-log2 4K2HD pre-made curve?

Hi

Just wondering if there has been made a fairly accurate REC709 or similar curve/preset to apply for editing and rushed material in PP CC?

Either by CD or some third person company, blog or fanmade.

Accurate to what specs of REC709? Do you need it to match something in particular or do you just want a nice looking image? Sony has their slog2 to 709 and 709 type A LUTs which aren't terrible. Personally I like the Impulz LUTs a lot more.

Just "around there someplace" to work with while editing, or to throw onto slog 2 footage on low budget jobs where we may have a bigger job for the same client later on, and thus need the higher DR safety from the slog2 footage thats on storage.

Where are the sony LUTs? I'm sure I had them once but can't find them now.

Up until now, I've just been using an S curve adjustment in something like MB Looks. I guess the Sony LUTs are going to be more accurate to get to a 709 style image?

Noah, I did have a look at the Impulz LUTs. Which ones do you prefer for the non-filmic 709 type look?

Just tried a good deal of LUTs and they all look incredibly ugly compared to my own grade.

Its the F55/F5 luts i got a hold of. Was hoping for a 4K2HD Fs700 accurate LUT or RBG-Curve preset to apply quickly.

Im not a skilled colorist, or know how to even begin creating my own LUTs.

I can probably figure it out with Youtube tutorials, but i figured someone else probably already have done it.

What happened to the CD LUT's - didn't they release some originally? Or is that something that just hasn't made it to the new web site yet?

All you do in SG/Resolve is to take a correctly exposed shot, make curves/saturation/whatnot adjustments and export it. That way you can use your personal grade as a preset, aka LUT. Another option would be to use any effect from Premieres effects panel, make your adjustments and save the effect as a preset.

I guess that depends what you mean by non-filmic 709 look? Harsh highlights and punchy skintones?

Basically my preference in the Impulz LUTs has been I like Vision3 50D DP FC LUT the most, but it can be too warm (especially the highlights) so the non-DP version is a bit more neutral, and further the FujiColor FC is even more desaturated and neutral. They are all very nice to my eye, though, so I'll usually try each for a project before setting one as a base. For a few projects I auditioned each of the Impulz LUTs and usually ended up on one of those three.

Yeah I didn't mean that - I really meant not the really severe looking film stock type LUTs. I'll have a look at your suggestion.

Thanks!

Easy as pie. There's even rec 709 presets in speedgrade you can tweak to get you closer to what you need.

I've just tried the Impulz LUTs you mentioned. Agree - they look great :)

What's your normal workflow using them? Do you use them in Premiere / AE or Speedgrade / Resolve?

Wondering if the best route is to use them as a base and tweak / grade on top?

I've used them in PPro and resolve. For the FC (Film Contrast) LUTs, which are the ones I prefer, I apply them first but keep them as the last effect/node. I'll just make sure in Premiere that any grading effects like colorista/curves/etc are above (before) the lumetri LUT effect. Log/slog is nice since it works in a more natural way with offset/exposure adjustments so you can tweak exposure realistically without dragging already compressed detail out of the knee/toe or shoulder. The LUTs add back in the nice looking shoulder and toe, but you want all your corrections to happen before the LUT adds those so you don't mess with them.
