F3: Premiere Color Grading "Filmic" Preset

Here is my Premiere preset that I'm pretty happy with. I spent alot of time with waveforms and charts to mimic the better curves we see with the Alexa or film. The instructions are in the zip folder. The nice thing is it's made up of all CUDA effects, so it's nice and fast if you're gpu accelerated.

Would love to have some of you put it through the wringer and post some results. :)

I posted some critique of Richard's grabs in highlight handling, and it might not of been appropriate.

It also started a thread derail, and I like threads on topic even if I have different thoughts, so I'm editing. :-)

I've gotta agree with Nate and it raises a really good issue.
I need to do a little more experimenting with my FCP7 tripack to look at the issue of color sat in highlights and shadows. That was something I didn't find any way to adjust in FCP . The test shot i was using didn't really have much in the way of those issues much but I did notice it a bit. I need to try a wider variety of images.
Aside from the correct LUT do you know of any other tools to adjust highlight and shadow saturation in FCP? That would be a nice plug in if anyone makes them for FCP 7 anymore.
How do you do it in Resolve?

...that you have a massive misconception of what a LUT is designed for. A LUT is NOT intended to replace or even be part of the post grading process.

I agree on one thing, I've derailed and I apologize for that.

I disagree strongly on the purpose of LUTs though. You would have a very hard time with material from many cameras color correcting without them. Viper most notably. Then Log-C Alexa. There's more. LUTs are a huge part of high-end post, for all sorts of reasons.

I'll cease and let the discussion get back to your presets.

Well, it would hae been nice if you tried the preset before completely dismissing it, but maybe im just being too sensotive.

I'm in no way dismissing it :-) It looks nice, it just didn't look to address my pet issues at the moment. I admit I should have left that alone.

The other part is I'm just not a Premiere guy, I have no way of trying it!

We'll have to agree to disagree on the purpose of LUTs. I'm finding that they are much more important than I had previously thought in getting the images I aspire too, after dismissing them as "not necessary" for quite a while.

[edit: Richard and I hugged it out via PM. Somehow now I'm buying him beer! The things that happen on message boards :-)]
