Premier vs Vegas for Educational Institutions

Anyone have any experience teaching at a college? My alma matter (sp?) is still using premier on a majority of all its computers - I've always been a Mac guy, but am noticing that Vegas has totally surpassed Adobe in every which way and is a few hundred bucks cheaper and more widely used.

Does anyone suggest me writing a letter to them saying to switch over? I'm guessing Adobe gives them a better educational discount, but do not know what Sony vs. Adobe's educational policy is. It's a shame to see them waste so much $$$ (they're strapped as it is) on lesser used software.

I have no experience teaching in college but the educational price for Vegas 6+DVD is only $259.95 quantity 1 (not sure if there are further volume discounts).

Most likely Adobe comps the whole thing to schools or some unbelievable price so it's hard to pass up. Mac used to give computers for free to schools so that is why they cornered that market early.

I've taught FCP and the whole range of Adobe apps at the Uni and High School level. That is, all Adobe apps except for Premier. It has just never been a tool that I could recommend outfitting an entire lab with.

It definitely couldn't hurt to write a letter. Sony does offer academic volume licensing on Vegas and their other software products fairly good discount.

BTW: If Adobe outfits school labs with their software for free, I've never heard of it. They have a volume licensing plan just like everyone else. But I suppose if the school's reputation can help to increase brand awareness for Adobe, they might work out a deal, but I'd say this is not the norm.
