Premier Pro 1.5 and 24P Help!

PP 1.5 is converting my 24P footage (HVX-200 Tape, not P2) to 29.97 within a 24p project (not 24pA).

I found a thread on this forum dating back to 2004 that seemed to indicate PP 1.5 may not handle 24p pull-down. I talked with Adobe today and the rep indicated there should not be an issue, but he wasn't familiar with 1.5 either.

I've tried different project settings 24p wide, 24p standard, and 60i. I also imported to other projects. The footage is not usable.

Any ideas?

Dude is a rep from Adobe that does not know 1.5? I would think he had some training in areas where people have had issues. It seems as though these reps know how to drag and drop transitions, but don't go much beyond that.

Thru my experiences with Premier Pro 1.5, I switched to Vegas. The whole 24P thing frustrated me to no end. Sorry I dont have a better answer, but I had nothing but problems with it.

Since pp 1.5 has never been able to do remove pulldown properly of 24pn footage during capture to a 24p timeline I would always remove the pulldown before taking it into premiere or I would shoot in 24pa.

I've since upgraded to cs3.

Premiere 1.5 couldn't handle 24p normal footage correctly. It could remove the advanced pulldown fine in a 23.976 timeline. Premiere Pro 2.0 fixed this issue, and could remove both pulldown schemes, and you could mix and match footage in different timelines. Meaning if you opened your footage in a 60i timeline it read at 29.97, and if you opened the same footage in a 24p timeline, it read at 23.976. CS3 also works the way it should with 24p footage. And vegas has always worked.
I don't own an HVX so I'm not familiar with it's shooting modes, but I bet that you shot in SD mode, 24p normal, and that's why you're having problems. Maybe try a quick test of shooting 24p advanced and see if Premiere reads it correctly. Then throw your Premiere disc in the air and shoot it with a shotgun. That's what I do.

Okay. I'll try 24pA, and anything else I can think of. Then I'll throw the disk. Actually, I have done some in-cam down-conversions (P2 to tape), and there was no issue on a 24p timeline.

Thanks much for your insight.

Since my footage is already 24p, what option do have to remove pull-down?

CS3 doesn't have this issue?

DV-Rack (Now called on location) will remove pulldown during capture. You can use it direct from camera which is its normal use or from a tape played back from camera.

Hello,

I do have a solution now, but first I'll give a brief background synopsis. I had one 20 minute, 24p clip to capture. Capturing the entire clip to the timeline would result in the conforming problem previously described. There was never an issue when capturing a short clip of approximately 5 minutes or less.

I found that if I let the short clip remain (as a reference), I could then capture the 20 minute clip to the same timeline, and the frame rate would be unaffected. However, the pixel aspect ratio would be changed to 1.2 within the 0.9 PAR project. This was then rectified with "Interpret Footage".

It should be noted that my originated footage was indeed widescreen, but I found that capturing as such resulted in a "wide" widescreen image, so I would capture the image as 0.9 PAR. It's as if Premier recognized the PAR a tried to conform back to original.

Regards,

GL
