Premier CS5-Color Correction / Grading

hey guys, I've recently mad the move over to premier from FCP. When I worked with Final Cut I used COLOR, the 3 way correction feature and Magic Bullet to grade my video with. Now I'm in premier, it seems like I only have 2 options, Magic bullet and some other features within the effects folder. Can you guys tell me the BEST way to color correct. Even if it means going into AE.

thanks guys.

I personally prefer Colorista to the native CC effects. MB Looks is also a staple in my CC arsenal. Both operate right from within Premiere Pro. Combined there's probably not a whole lot I can't do.

Can't tell you the *best* way, because it depends on your sources and what you're trying to accomplish. But the "classic" way (if there is such a thing) with Adobe is to go to AE. I think of AE as the video version of Photoshop. Layers and everything. It ships with a plugin from Synthetic Aperture called Color Finesse which is pretty easy to use. Take a look at this tutorial and see what you think. Just scratches the surface of what it can do, but it should give you a flavor for it anyway.

I'm definitely a fan of Colorista. And since Premiere operates in 32bits per channel everything looks really nice.

I think Adobe also fixed their XML so that you can send stuff to Resolve, and presumably Resolve Lite as well which is free.

Right, the best support for Resolve is Premiere Pro CS5.5 (5.5.1). You can also export an XML to FCP and then go into Color.

I would suggest the best way to CC is in Resolve.
I tend to take over the source files and have never had reason to use XML workflows yet. ( must try XML one day though)

One reason I suggest Resolve over other suggestions is the ability to see the footage running with in the grade window.

Colorista , MB Looks means one works with a frame grab effectively. Kind of limiting.

Obviously the power in Resolve CC is another huge benefit. eg Windows beziered , powerful secondaries, easy flow to Flame etc..
