Predictions on codec update for A6k?

The RX10 got it and the a5100 has xavc-s. I want to buy the a6k, but with the a5100 having the much-better codec I can't bring myself to buy it yet! Am I wasting my time waiting because it won't come; or should I buy the a6k knowing it's around the corner? Thanks

I'm with you on that. Also would want the A6000, but then the A5100 ruined things by having XAVC-S.
Although I'm not buying one quite yet so I have to hold out anyway.

Seems impossible to to predict though. So far the RX10 is a bit of a unique thing in the line up.
As far as I know, Sony doesn't have a too good track record of adding extra functionality like that.

On one hand...

You'd think they'd want to, with Photokina right around the corner. Give them an extra selling point on the a6000, maybe two extra selling points if they threw in 120fps @ 1280x720 like they did on the RX10.

On the other hand...

Sony have a long, proud history of "drop & run", leaving you to wait for the next model (eg the a6100 or an a7000).

At this stage, impossible to say, From the RX10 update we know they *could*, but I sure wouldn't bet my life on them "doing the right thing" and adding XAVC-S to the a6000.

Having said that, the a6000 is a great little camera in most respects. I miss the electronic level found on previous models, but most other aspects are improved, and for the price it is hard to find better at the moment. Remember that the a5100 does not have a hotshoe, so if triggering studio lights with something like a Pocket Wizard, using something like the Yongnuo YN560 wireless manual flash system, or even a larger Sony dedicated flash is important to you, then the a5100 is a non-starter.

I would think that, if the RX10 got it, the a6000 must be getting it too. Unless there's a replacement around the corner, but it seems to soon for that.

i think it all depends on the panasonic gm5 and if the a6000 has the bionz-x processor (pretty sure it does.) The Rx10 got the upgrade probably in response to the panasonic fz1000 so if the gm5 has like 4k or something crazy up it's sleeve that'll force sony's hand more than anything.

The gm5 is coming out at Photokina, correct? I don't know anything about it, but isn't it supposed to be a RX100 M3 competitor? Really hoping Sony comes through with the FW update here..I don't want the a5100, but will buy it if necessary.
