Pre wedding video

Re: Pre wedding video

How did you make the pans on the invitations and other paper stuff? (handheld, tripod, crane...) ? The moves were fluid!

Keep on the good work !!

Re: Pre wedding video

Thanks Styves!

The camera moves for the inviations were all done with a tripod. I origionally wanted to shoot 30P and slow mo it, but it just didn't look right. So I did about 5 slow pans and it worked! The hardest part was getting the light right. I ended up setting the invitations on a white art canvas and set it near a window to use the natural lighting. It was evening, so the lighting was perfect!

Thanks for your comments!

Re: Pre wedding video

how much input did the bride / groom give you on what they wanted out of the video? Did you do most of the directing, or was it a collaboration?

Re: Pre wedding video

TuffGong,

It was a colaboration really. The interview portion I gave them about 5 questions to work with and they ran with that. They came up with a few questions to answer on their own, but I basically start off with the typical, "How did you two meet?; Tell me about the proposal, etc."

As for the romantic shots, I direct a few of the shots to get them going, then once they get comforable, I just bascially tell them to have fun, and walk around, hold hands, kiss, etc... and it just works.

Thanks,
Vince

Re: Pre wedding video

Vince,

Great job on the video. I liked the actions shots because they did not have a fake feel to them, it sort of felt like that was really them in front of the camera. I could also feel the energy and excitement they had for each other and the upcoming wedding. What song was that?

The wedding invitations were cool, I liked that perspective and it had a professional feel to it. Great job!

Re: Pre wedding video

Kyle,
Thanks for your comments! This couple really did feel comfortable in front of the camera. It was a joy to work with them. The song is called Show me heaven, but I'm not sure who sings it. The couple gave me a cd with the songs they wanted, so I just got it from there. I actually looped the intro to play under their interview segments. Then let the full song play forth when going to their action shots to build the excitment a bit.
As for the invitations, this was the first time I have done that perspective on them. I'm trying to break free from the typical scan and scroll invitation look, and the dvx in 30p worked perfectly for what I was looking for.
Thanks again!

Re: Pre wedding video

Great stuff. I'm not a major fan of the Love Story Theme, but that one of the better ones I've seen. My only grip is that the lighting looked a little harsh on their faces during the interviews. The falloff was very hard.. maybe difuse it a tad to remove some of the shadow it cast on the B.G.

The invitation stuff was fantastic. Great tripod use. It flowed very nicely.

Re: Pre wedding video

Thanks for your feedback!,
Yeah, the lighting bugged me a bit too. What would you suggest? There was a photographer there, and she was holding a diffuser up to block the majority of the light on their faces, but we were outside in an open barnporch. I'm not sure what type of a diffuser she had, but the one I just bought worked really good on the latest shoot I did. (I'll post that in a week or so) The only lighting was the natural sunlight. It looked really good at the beginning of the interview, but around 7:30ish I noticed it was getting bad.

For the invitation I was really just trying to break the mold sort of instead of doing the normal scan and scroll. I'm really happy with that, and the couple loved it!

As for the "love story" videos, I try to keep them origional with each wedding as to not get into that sterotypical "love story cookie cutter approach" The wedding I'm working on now, the couple wanted to visit each of the places that were important in their story. So we went to Michigan State's campus where they met, and shot a standup at each location, and some cutaways. We really lucked out as we visited the apartments they lived at and they were wide open, with nobody living there! So we went in and shot!

Thanks again for your comments!

Re: Pre wedding video

I thought the intro was great! especialy the shots of the invitations. Really enjoyed the DOF on the ribbons, etc.

there was one shot of panning down the invitation thatr starts with a nice ease in, and then just stops on a still frame. perhaps an ease-out to a still would make it a little smoother.

another pan down ends with just a LITTLE bit of text from the next line at the bottom of the screen. i'd suggest trrimming that pan down slightly so that the bottom of the screen is just white, and does not suggest that there is more to read that the film just doesn't show.

one thing that made me want to hit the fast forward though was the static shots of the bride and groom at the beginning. you could trim some time off by having their voices as VO over the fun things they are doing. it would lend some drama and realism to their described relationship with eachother.

why show her sitting on the couch talking about how much fun they have when you can SHOW them having fun while she's talking?

oh, and they tend to say "blessing" a lot. 10 years from now, they may think it's a little corny.

Excelent work!

Re: Pre wedding video

Funky_Dragon,
Great tips! Thank you...I agree it can get a bit boring with the static shots, but the rest of the video I had a lot of romantic footage mixed in as well, this was just the last 5 minutes... Unfortunatly I only have limited space on my comcast account..

Thanks again,
Vince
