Pre-Rec/150 = Advantage

Was with other BetaCam-based media at a gun call yesterday. One guy was nervously watching his battery meter go rapidly down, another was trying to save tape. Standoffs can be long & boring, punctuated by brief moments of excitement. And this is why a solid state camera with pre-record rocks. We had our lenses pointed at the house, waiting for something to happen.. of course, cops don't tell us when they are going to go in.. so when the flashbang went off, my fellow shooters were cursing they were not rolling.. I just hit my 'REC' button and got the whole thing.

The other nice thing is I was able to scoot into a house across the street very quickly because the gear is small and easy to run with. Enjoy.

For sure, its great for all applications when you can face the camera in the right direction and hit record right after the event happens/starts - speakers, nature/lightning, sports, action, weddings etc

'Tis great! Only wish there were more options (including longer times) for how many seconds.

The remote is also key with this feature! It's easy to bump the cam when you are excitedly trying to hit the button to catch something (and the resulting shake is often at the worst point). Remote helps here and lets you sit away, but have to be very aware if it is actually working each time if it's line of sight isn't perfect.

One disadvantage I've found from when I leave it on and am on the go... many of my clips start out pointing at the ground or wherever. Only noticeable when watching clips back in entirety, and does not make the feature any less valuable!

I wish there was something inside the camera, like a detector.. that somehow senses when you are 'on a shot' but the dummy you are didn't hit the 'REC' button .. like I did a few days ago.. best streeter of the day and I didn't record it. Unnnggg... I have a clip where I'm getting framed up, and then it ends.. I suspect I forget I was already recording. damn.. And it didn't help that I was distracted by her. ahem.. appearance.

So like, a 256gb SDHC card, with a padlock on the record button would help.

A guy I work for has an aj-sdx900 DVCPro cam. I believe the camera can be outfitted with a board to pre-record something like 15 or 25 seconds. That's just ridiculous.
