Pre-order a GH2 in the USA for usage in Europe?

I'm in Europe, if I would be happy with shooting 24fps but don't want to deal with the 30 minute limit in PAL versions, would it make sense to buy my GH2 in the USA instead? The only shop that takes pre-orders though is amazon.com and they don't send to Europe. Any American here willing to help me out with this? I have the camera shipped to you and you ship it to France?

Sounds like a good plan... cheaper (by quite a bit), and no difference regarding 25p... I bet a lot of Europeans will be doing this, silly Panasonic.

I could probably help you out if you have PayPal or some other kind of secure payment. I've sent some stuff overseas before for some friends and relatives that wanted some US electronics and appliances. The important thing is for me, or whoever else is gonna' do it, to mark it as a gift at customs/post office. If not, then you'll probably get chewed up with customs fees once its delivered. PM me if you're interested and I can give you my other contact info.

I just had a horrible dream. It involved shooting with an USA imported GH2 and pulldown-removal. What was the story again on this? When shooting 24fps with an USA model, pulldown needs to be removed before editing is possible? Is this a GH1 only issue or will it be the same with the GH2?

That is a GH1 issue only. The GH2 shoots native progressive 24 FPS video. If you are going to be displaying the 24p footage at 50 FPS or higher then the GH2 will work perfectly even in PAL land. You just won't be able to plug it directly into your TV and watch the footage.

But what about the problem caused by the difference of frequency ? I thought that shooting with a NTSC camera in Europe will interfere with the lighting frequencies...

Anyone ?

The PAL version will have the option of recording at a frequency that's compatible with European lighting (50i), however, the NTSC version will not.

Though, because the only 1080p option is at 24p on both models, it won't make a difference if you only want to use 24p and nothing else.

Are you sure about that one? most of the decent TVs I've run across do 24p just fine, and 30p and 60i. I'm in PAL land as well.

I've bought electronics for years from NTSC countries, just too much cheaper

Multi-standard TV's have been the norm outside of the USA for decades. Just be careful buying "out of area" goods as warranties usually won't be honoured. Also customs duties can be a *****.

Here in France it's weird, I buy stuff online from USA sources all the time, but most of the time French customs doesn't deal with it and it just gets delivered without having to pay duties.
