Practical way to pull off this shot?

I don't have a crane or a jib arm, just a Miller Solo VJ tripod and my two hands.

I want to see a continuous feet to head shot. I could splice it up into different shots, but I think it might be hard to match speed between shots.

The shoes, in particular, are important... and I think it's a cool shot. How much are the crane or jib arm attachments for a fluid head? Can I rent one?

yes, check your local production company rental place. but for that shot in particular it might get a little tricky to get the jib/camera to go that low, well actually scratch that....its all a matter of distance and perception right? silly me...

Well if you've got steady hands, it might be possible to do it handheld if you're shooting with a DVX100A! Or bash up some sort of DIY FigRig or similar.

OK shoot it with a DIY steadycam that you can make for about $25. Just search for the plans online, or look at sleeper pics in the spyfest section of this website and make something similar. It's really easy. Then shoot it upsidedown and flip it in post.

Use tilting to increase your boom range.
Tilting as you boom reduces the distance you have to boom while still giving a similar effect.

Have your actor walk down some stairs right into a close up. You can start on the feet and presto. why use a crane or boom when you have a human. much more dynamic.
