Well, I'm pretty impressed. With a 512 GB SSD, I get close to 25 minutes of 4K. Two 512 GB SSD's will give me close to an hour.
So, why would I want 4K? Especially when, in my world, DVD distribution is still a reality; and, HD resolution is really the norm.
I' ve been importing 4K footage to Resolve as 4K DCI; and generating 4K Quicktime YUV 10 bit output. (PC's can't generate prores).
Then, Importing 4K QT into Media Composer, I can pan and scan the 4K footage to HD (1920x1080) without any apparent loss in HD resolution, giving me a lot of flexibility in final delivery image choices. Wow, I can't think of a better scenario, except for the ability to correct focus errors in post...
I'm using Samsung 1 TB EVO 4 SSD's for an unbelievably fast transfer speed. All in all, I am really liking this 4K capability. I'm having to really rethink my acquisition framing, zooming out more than is appropriate, to really take advantage of this post process flexibility. The really nice thing is that the FS700 really does acquire in 4K, so reframing to HD doesn't show obvious artifacting. Curiously, there seems to be some changes in image contrast, but, that's easily adjusted in post.
