yes they are.

Over the last 2 months we have been pressing the factory for more clarified illustrations and information on this and it has come to light that the PQ is not wet but rather dry. This does not make it like the MQ series tape though. The MQ series has a better emulsion that has less head wear, 4X the particle density and better retentivity.

I know this very confusing, but I think the advise spoken above, take one manufacturer and stick with it.

Hope this helps,

Jan

Re: PQ tapes are dry too...

mmm funny, as I actually addressed this to a Panasonic Tape engineer, and they said the opposite. Jan though, is a pretty solid source. I will try and make a few calls to get to the bottom of this.

Re: PQ tapes are dry too...

still amazing how vague a simple technical fact can be...

Re: PQ tapes are dry too...

yeah.. i just guess that we will never know the truth about the real influence of these two tapes on the head.. or maybe we should post a poll once and for all, asking PQ and MQ users to report if they experienced any problems.. ? we're talking here about almost double price of the MQ over the PQ! not to mention availability..

Re: PQ tapes are dry too...

Jan emailed me awhile back (about a month ago) and said she would not make any more comments, because the definitive answer has not been released. Supposedly Panasonic is to release official answers sometime in the future.

Re: PQ tapes are dry too...

follow the link above (2-pop).. i guess the answer was given just recently

Re: PQ tapes are dry too...

That confirms that PQ and MQ are dry....maybe. ;D

It doesn't speak to all the other Panasonic tapes though.

Re: PQ tapes are dry too...

Well, we will all find out the truth when the heads clog on our cameras. ;D

Re: PQ tapes are dry too...

just hope your warranty is good :)
