Powering AJ-PCD2 P2 Card Reader

The AJ-PCD2 requires power and data from 2 separate USB ports. What if you only have 2 USB ports and need to transfer to a USB drive? Can you power the AJ-PCD2 with some other device like an iPhone charger?

(Please don't answer unless you have actually done this many times without damage to the AJ-PCD2.)

The AJ-PCD2 says 5V .5A on the back and the iPhone charger says 5V 1A. Too much power?

Thanks.

Don't have a real answer for you on that specific question, I haven't tried it as I haven't needed to, but I do have a potential alternative suggestion -- you could get an external-powered USB hub, that plugs into the wall and provides regular .5A power...

Kind of a Y cable...don't know where I got it but it was in my massive box of misc. cables.

Mini USB on one end for the hard drive. USB male on the other end for computer plus USB female to connect another device. In other words it doesn't tie up a USB port on the computer.

If anybody knows what it is called I'd like to know as I want to buy a spare.

I have a power adapter that I plug one of the USBs into. It was designed for music. Here is what it looks like. Have done this probably over a dozen times without a problem. I never even thought about it until reading your post. I bought a USB hub for this problem but when I realized I had this little gadget, I never even opened the hub.View attachment 69016View attachment 69017View attachment 69016
