GH4 POWER OIS jitter issue

I rented the 14-140 for an event photo shoot and all the photos that didn't use the electronic shutter were way soft! I know micro shutters are different from shutter shock, but dammit Panasonic, do I have to go back to Canon for reliable photo taking and use you only with an active speed booster and non native glass for stabilized video?

Panasonic is working on the OIS.

New update (1.2) for 35-100. http://av.jpn.support.panasonic.com/support/global/cs/dsc/download/fts/dl/hs35100.html

Changelog:
  1. Improved the stability of O.I.S.[Optical Image Stabilizer] in Motion Picture recording (When using DMC-GH3/GH4)

First post, but I've been lurking on this thread for a while. If anyone has the chance to test this out, I'd love to see the difference. Very encouraging, though frustrating that CS still says that they don't know anything about it.

Can anyone tell me: Does the camera body really have to have the latest firmware installed? I haven't updated my GH4 yet, because I didn't want to lose all my customizations (and have to go through the trouble of recreating them). I'd like to update the 35-100's firmware without messing with the body's firmware. TIA.

Your customizations stay intact when you upgrade the GH4 firmware. I have a ton of them and it was painless.

I would love to see some hand held footage shot with the firmware updated 35-100mm lens! Please, please, PLEASE somebody do this firmware update and post some footage. If the O.I.S. finally works, I can stop searching for an alternative lens.

Actually if you full screen the video, I still see it. It's less dramatic than the earlier samples but I still see subtle microjitters. At least compared to the 14-42 which is bomb solid.

That might also be the 100mm vs 42mm as well. Gonna look at some of my clips right now.

The parts I notice it the most are on that blue pattern at 0:19, the last batch of bottles at 0:37 and the shot of him both in the intro and particularly when it's played again in slower motion at 0:38.

It's a bit hard to tell because he doesn't stay on any shots for very long, but it definitely still looks there. Much improved, though.

I finally got an answer from Panasonic factory about my questions of Panasonic 14-140 f3.5-5.6 OIS jittering in video. They said that my many jittering example videos looks normal and the OIS seems to work in factory standards (pretty low standards) and there is nothing wrong.

It is not a surprise, what else they can say. They said the same thing about 35-100 f2.8 but still they made the FW fix. Now they still cant say that they have not heard about the issue. I hope they can still make the fix.

I concur. Updated mine. It's improved, but not 100% jitter free. Probably as good as it can get.

So I updated my 35-100 and tried it out. I have to concur with what others have said:

Is it better? Yes.

Is it as good @35mm as the 12-35 is at @35? No, definitely not.

Is it usable? No, unfortunately I don't think. I don't have time to do other tests today, and I do want to try again before giving up. But from what I'm seeing, while it's an improvement, it still jitters too much to be useful for me. At least they tried, though.

Edit: After a bit more testing, my conclusion remains the same. Better, but not good enough for me:

It's a shame really, because I consider the stabilization on the 14-42 and presumably the original 14-140 to be quite good.
