GH4 POWER OIS jitter issue

Those microjitters look awful. I'm surprised that slipped by people.

My lowly 14-42 lens has much better OIS.

Does the 14-140 original version with the mega OIS do the same thing?

Man, I would be livid if I plunked down cash for the 35-100 and that's how it behaved.

my 14-140mm (first version) OIS is fine

my 14-140mm (first version) OIS is fine

I am very satisfied with the stabilization of my 14-140mm (first version) lens. It was a kit lens with my GH2, and has served me well. I did apply a firmware update to it, but as I recall that may have only been designed to enhance focus speed. Being my first MFT lens with O.I.S., I assumed all Pany lenses with O.I.S., especially the much more expensive 35-100/f2.8, would perform the same.

All Mega OIS lenses seem to be fine (14-140 mkI included).

I wish I would have read this thread two weeks ago. I had just purchased a 14-140 v1 lens from Amazon (unaware that there was a v2). I found the lens to be excessively soft and sent it back. I then noticed that there was a v2 version so I bought that. It is not as soft as my v1 copy was, but does have the micro jitters that you have so proficiently detailed. I guess I'm going to have to send this back also, but I really need a zoom in this range. I also have the 100-300 and , as you mentioned, this does not have the poor OIS performance that the 14-140 v2 exhibits.

Please complain to Panasonic if you have this jittering lens because Panasonic says they dont know the issue.

After a month of meaningless (useless) replies from Panasonic, I gave up; sorry. I can understand how they've not heard of the issue, because despite my repeated pleas, I could not get it escalated past the frontline drones.

I'm extremely disappointed with Panasonic's "service". It is entirely different from what I experienced as a Canon user, and totally unprofessional. I'm going to have a difficult time recommending Panasonic cameras to my prosumer friends, knowing what I know now about how they treat their customers.

I think this issue defines, to some degree, the difference between Panasonic's consumer line of products and professional products by other manufacturers. Maybe Panasonic's "pro" line of products gets better attention.

Panasonic has enjoyed runaway success in recent years with the MFT format, so I guess they don't feel compelled to "fix" something that most people feel isn't broken. Surely, enough people have brought this issue to their attention, and stating that they haven't heard of this issue is disheartening. I have sent repeated emails to the Seattle area Panasonic rep, who seemed very interested at first, but has since stopped replying. I can only guess that he is not allowed to comment on something that Panasonic does not intend to address. Maybe I'm wrong, but silence usually means avoidance. The camera stores won't comment on this, either. Pity...the 35-100mm is an otherwise pretty good lens.

I think you're right. It's all about the bottom line, and as long as so few consumers seem to be affected, they aren't likely to do a thing about it.

On Amazon, there are only four reviews that mention the OIS video issue -- out of 52 reviews. So fewer than 8% of Amazon buyers care, why should Panasonic? (That's rhetorical, obviously.)

Can we rundown all the MEGA OIS lens available? Just for future reference, to buy them before POWER OIS is all we get left with :)

Tom - The only MEGA OIS lens I have is the 14-140mm kit lens. The stabilization works very well.

I have a vintage Vivitar 28-90 F2.8 Canon FD mount lens coming that I will try with my GH4 until a stabilized lens option becomes available.

I have the 14-42 Mega OIS and the stabilization works quite well as far as I'm concerned.

I'm really surprised that this hasn't been a bigger deal. Is it all Power OIS lenses? or just certain batches? Is there no one else that shoots handheld with these lenses? I mean, what's the point of OIS (and paying for it) if you aren't going to?

I don't have any of those, but I would be *livid* if I brought one with this issue. Thanks for bringing it to light. I'll definitely be getting the old 14-140 instead of the new one.

Thanks for support. I am getting very tired with my Panasonic 14-140mm f3.5-5.6 lens. Panasonic is not willing to give any help or advise what is going on.
