FS7: Power odyssey 7Q+ from XCA-FS7

Anybody could tell me what kind of hirose connector needs the XDCA-FS7 extension unit?
I want to power the odyssey 7Q+ for the XDCA-FS7.

Thanks

The power output of that connection is not strong enough to power the Odyssey7Q+. I don't know the internals of that device, so I don't know if you would pop a breaker or self-resetting fuse, or if it may burn out a fuse or even worse a circuit that would require a service repair.

Instead I suggest powering from P-Tap. There are plates that fix between the XDCA battery mount and a battery that include P-Taps and/or other power outputs, os you can purchase one of the many batteries with built in P-Tap that are made for the XDCA's V-lock battery mount. I like the Switronix ones as a nice value but there are several other brands.

Thank you Mitch for respond.
The odyssey needs between 6.5 and 34v to work so isn´t enough to power on the odyssey the XDCA-FS7's DC (11v-17v 2A)?

6.5 to 34VDC for the O7Q+, but 8 to 18 watts, depending on monitor/record mode.

Which means your source has to amply provide the required wattage, within an acceptable voltage range.

Watts = Amps x Volts

So, at 11volts, 2amps, you theoretically have 22 watts. However, I'm not finding specs on that Hirose output, and if Mitch Gross and by extension the manufacturer don't suggest powering that way, then it's probably not got enough headroom.

And indeed, powering off a P-Tap directly from a battery brick is going to be better, and more stable in the long run.

ok!
Thank you for the information. I will power on with a P-tap.
Still and all, I can use this hirose connector for other purposes, but I can't find anywhere what kind of connector is.

It is a standard Hirose-4, I don't recall the model. These are commonly used for wireless microphone receivers, and their are plenty of pre-made cables for using them.

They rate the output at 2 amperes on that connector.

I myself am preparing to cobble together a cable to power my Shogun Inferno off this port. But the cables for sale on Amazon are in the $30 range. The connectors are about $5 or less from Mouser, but there are some 60 different varieties! Finding the exact match is the problem.

I've been using the hirose output to power my Odyssey (monitor and record) for the past year or so without any problems.

Hearing this might push me back to using a d-tap connector instead. Thanks for the heads-up.

I've been planning the same, as the P-tab on my battery could have other uses. I do have a Hirose connector with cable which I used to power my nanoFlash; could somebody suggest the proper wiring to make it work the other way around, i.e. draw from the XDCA output? TIA

I looked in my Shogun kit and lo and behold, under all the other stuff, is a D-tap to barrel cable, so I powered the Shogun off the V-lock battery's D-tap connection. Works a treat. Though I thought it would be neater to power it off the extension back, so that battery changed didn't require plugging and unplugging cables.

Exactly my reasons, too, Mark :) Plus, all my on-camera lights have their own D-tap cables...
