Hello all,
Looking for a more compact battery setup and interested in getting the Extension Unit soon for my FS7. Wondering what is the best way to power the 7Q+ off the Extension Unit? Is it through the 4 Pin Hirose Output (whatever that is?)

Thanks,
Chris

Hello all,

The 4-pin is one way. I like to keep thst free to drive wireless mikes. I have an Odyssey power cable to D-tap and use my camera battery.

Powering the 7Q through the extension unit does work. Someone on here got it work and said it wasn't too hard. I would probably have someone make the cable for you if you don't know what you are doing.

Olof from Westside AV makes custom cables and knows what he's doing.

The 4-pin Hirose (HRS-4) connector on the extension unit is rated by Sony to output too low an amperage to reliably power the Odyssey7Q+. It might work, but officially it is not within spec. I don't know how the Extension unit is designed. Best case is that over-drawing results in a thermal breaker tripping, which means that after perhaps a few minutes it is fine again. It could also mean that an internal fuse is burned out, which would mean a trip to Sony Service. And worse case scenario is that the port is not protected significantly, so a board could get fried which would be an EXPENSIVE trip to Sony Service.

The HRS-4 is really designed for small draw loads like wireless mike kits or small video transmitters. I suggest buying V-lock batteries with built-in P-Taps on them and powering the Odyssey7Q+ this way. There are many brands of battery with integrated P-Taps included; I like Switronix.
