POV Helmet/Action HD Camera

Ive shot a couple projects with the HVX and love the images but I really dislike conforming other formats to work with 720p24. Currently I'm trying to find a camera setup that will shoot 720p24 that I can use as a POV/Helmet camera. It needs to be small and somewhat durable. Can anyone recommend a camera setup that shoots HD and is small enough and durable enough to use as a crash camera?? Id prefer not to shoot SD and have to upres the footage...
This was never an issue when I shot Film... we always used a GASP camera. Unfortunately it wasnt reliable enough and cost a ton to shoot...

I would love some additional info on these "helmet" type cameras. I have been searching online but most of the ones I have found need to be connected to a mini-dv or such camera to record to. So finding a decent quality cam that will record to an SD card sounds great! Are there any out there that have decent (it is a helmet cam afterall) quality in HD or SD?

I use the HelmetCamera.com set up. VERY durable housing, and changable glass in front of the lens. this is very important no matter what POV camera you are using.

the downside the the HelmetCamera set up... you need a deck (I use an old MiniDV camcorder) that will take RCA in, and it is only SD. The upside is its cheap, and its very durable. The images are prety good, and you can change lenses (there are two avail from HelmetCamera.com).

that being said, I am most likely selling my rig and picking up a Xacti as my new HD POV camera. Its the smallest out there.

I'll dig up some footage from the SD POV camera in a day or two.

No idea what it says exactly, but I turned this up on a search.

There are a few SD POV cameras that record to solid state memory out now, but nothing HD (that I know of).

These are designed specifically for racecars, and from experience it's one of the nicest systems out there. It even has the option for gathering telemetry and burning it into the image (speed, g-forces, pretty much whatever you want to know).

I also know of people using smaller consumer HDV cameras with success. Durability would be the primary issue with those, however.

Thanks for all the input guys but I'm looking for a more professional grade system... Does anyone know if there is any type of lipstick camera that can record to HDV or any HD format??? Or can anyone recommend a good small HDV camera that we could build a housing that could mount onto a helmet and the like???

I have been looking for the same thing, there are some very high end ice-cube cameras that shoot HD, output HDSDI- but they either aren't for sale yet, or are prohibitively expensive. Add to that, there there is no portable HD recording device on the market right now.

Your only option besides that sanyo is the smallest canon hdv camera. It'll go on a helmet, but won't be very comfortable.
