Possibly moving to NC

Charlotte is a small town with some very tall buildings.

And yes, Jeremy, I, too, voted against the basketball arena.

I voted for it before I voted against it. Then my vote was thrown out for not living anywhere near there.

greensboro not too big and not too small but still north carolina sucks in general if you looking for wow factor stuff. except for the coast. i dont like NC but i've lived here for 22 years.

I have lived in a ton of places in my life but I really love this town. I think Jimmerson was the one who laughed at me because I really love this town. The weather is perfect, we have no REAL winter (I went to college in MN, that's real winter), Charlotte is 3 hours from the mountains and 3 hours from the beach. Best of all, it is a suburban city. That being said, the highway system in MNPLS is brilliant while the one here is a joke (485 isn't done yet and it's already obsolete... another comment for Overland and Jimmerson).

All things being equal, Charlotte is a city that is easy to love because it actually has very little identity, therefore it becomes what you want it to be. No one in Charlotte is from Charlotte... our sports fans are more fair-weather than this city in March (30 degrees one day 70 the next)... We have good food, a growing arts community, and overall, and maybe most importantly, a booming job market with a very fair cost of living.

Shoot me a PM and I can get you hooked up with some places to live depending on where you work (it's not as bad as Atlanta, but still, 77 is no joke between 7 & 10am)

------------------------------------------------------------

BTW: Mallard Creek area has had more shopping centers go up in the last six months than you would believe.

Alaska is real winter. I got a buddie who is up in Chapel Hill. He loves it there. Says the food is great.

I went to Greensboro a few years back for an acting thing. I hated that town. Never been to Charlotte. But, at least it ain't Alabama!

I didn't laugh at you. I like Charlotte a lot, or I wouldn't have lived there for 7 years. It's a small town with big city stuff. Of course, it's getting all those big city problems, and there's no way I'd ever put any kids in those schools . . . but there are things I miss about it. Closeness to Blowing Rock, for one.

As for traffic, I watched it get worse over the years I lived there. When I first moved there, the commute down Old Concord Road was usually a pretty solitary experience. By the time I stopped going downtown every day, it was almost bumper-to-bumper. And forget any interstate at rush hour, let alone just 77.

But I do love Wilmington. Year-round beaches, winters even milder than Charlotte, great seafood, Port City Java -- it's true that there's not as much stuff as there is in Charlotte, but it's growing. Though believe it or not, traffic might be worse.

I don't believe it :)

Wilmington is beautiful and has that sleepy town thing going for it where although I know it is a city and has a ton of things going for it, the tourist attraction value just makes me associate it with Myrtle Beach.

The Mallard Creek store will be at Mallard Creek Church and Mallard Creek - they have a sign up if you get off 85 and head West.

Yeah, that's across from my Harris Teeter (and Caribou Coffee).

Believe it, at least in terms of surface streets. Market Street is as bad as Providence Road any day.

You learn where all the "secret" parking spaces are fairly quickly.
