possible to buy in US in January?

is it possible to buy this camera in january? or has panny deliberately shipping limited stock to create a frenzy?

I wonder that myself -
on one hand I want to hear the review from the first batch
...on the other I am trying to get it as fast as I can, thereafter.

but I am Hesitant to pre order from RUSH
or Spec. Comm - though there deals are great ...but I think their pre order lines will be huge and nobody knows what Panasonic is shipping - -
I keep thinking I should try my luck at a smaller camera store in NYC or even B&H...

to answer your question...Yes, intentionally or not, a Frenzy is definiitely tuning up

I see no profit motive for limiting supply of the first run. The more then can sell in 2005 the better for the stock holders. Professional equipment doesn't get the same marketing benefits that say Beanie Babies do by having limited supplies. If anything they will lose more customers who can't wait and just get something else (HDV offering).

The bigger question will be how will the PAL version effect the supplies of the NTSC versions in March.

Cheers

Well, my order was placed back in spring of 05. I was number 2 on the waiting list. I would be number 1 if I could just get the current address of that bastard that's currently number 1 :)

I was told Friday that I could expect delivery 1st week of Jan 06. Going by that math, Einstein would say you can expect delivery of yours sometime in fall of 06. Fortunately for you Einstein made a lot of mistakes.

meaning:
I'll probably get the HVX at the same as the Firestore (and the new G35)
...meaning in a few months
after the dust settles ...
the rain will pour

I highly doubt you will have to wait longer than end of January, this isnt a limited edition Rolls Royce or a Xbox 360.

Besides this gives the people who cant own theirs in the next few months, the time to RENT and test out this camera and see if its worth buying in the first place.

many of the better pre order deals are saying the end of Febuary -
I guess it depends how (much) Panny ships...

frenzy for this cam?

frenzy for this cam?

the only frenzy you can create for this cam will be heard by this forum. no one else cares except for pros. this is no consumer product so unlike microsoft, panavision has nothing to gain by limiting supply and getting lame hyped news stories about people being trampled for overpriced consumer electronics.

One thing to keep in mind is that even though our pre-order lists are longer, we ordered allot more units than "smaller" dealers. We usually get more units in our shipments than the "smaller" dealers also because Panasonic realizes that we have more customers to keep happy. So I think if anything it will be about the same time if not longer if you go with a "smaller" dealer and you won't get this great deal.

How long is your waiting list?

My that is a personal question!
It's as long as it needs to be.

Thank you HVXguy for putting it that way. We have always kept company orders confidential and we always will.

I know that there have been numbers flying around here but we don't want to create high hopes and then have to give you bad news at the end. We have found being honest and up front has had a good reaction with everybody and then if there is a pleasant surprise, we all feel good.

None of the dealers (including us) really know how long it will take to fill all the orders, even for those who have large orders. As soon as we get a better idea from Panasonic, we will be sure let you all know.

andrew - are the goodies good ONLY for pre-orders?

FREE 6000mAh Battery
FREE UPS Ground Shipping**
FREE Camera cleaning
Receive 10% off our best price on the CinePorter™ when released. ($220)
---------
I am waiting for Barry's full review - so if I order after the camera starts shipping do I have to forgo all these goodies and pay full price?

Spec-Com seems to have the lowest price + goodies at this point....

thanks

Well, a full review would have to wait until the final model is released, because things can change between now and then.

My initial review is, I will have one of these the first second it is possible to do so, and to quote River from Firefly: "no force in the 'verse can stop me."

:)

If you really wanted to be "honest and upfront" you'd tell customers how long the wait list is before they hand over a $500 NON refundable deposit as per your company's policy.

sorry guys, can't have it both ways, if you want to be secretive and put customers in weak position fine, but don't turn around and brag about being "up front".

Secondly, if you would put people on a list, so they at least knew their position, that also mightbe helpful in chosing to hand over the cash. If I were number 10 on a list, I would gladly pay the $500, but less likely to tie up my money if I were number 300. They are asking for a lot by not even letting you know how many are in front of your order, AND asking for a nonrefundable deposit of $500.

We have 182 people in line, but as of yesterday, I still haven't heard from 50 people, so I would say that brings our queue down to 132. Everyone else moves up. Anyone on the list can write to me anytime for their number. We are wide open, the only thing we protect is our customers' personal info. But our company info is open. No deposit, no worries. We had 125 cameras on order with Panny, and we just bumped it up to 175, just to be safe.
