Possible DVXuser website changes...

Wish I were banned.
I don't like how when you search for something you have to wait 60 seconds before searching again. I don't see what this does other than maybe freeing up some possible bandwidth issues, but I don't think it would make much of a difference. If I click new posts, then want to search something I have to wait a minute.

I realize that I'm being pretty lazy but I would love to have that changed.

Also, if you are searching something and you misspell it, you have to wait a minute to get your search through.

Opinions?

Yeah, at least us non yella' users have a limit of 60 seconds between searches.

Made to help keep the bandwitch and server load down I guess. Searching the database is prety system intensive.

Makes sence on the "new posts" button, but for regular keyword searches it's a pain in the butt. - Often faster to just ask the question then spend 10 mintues finding the right search term.

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain...

- Mikko ... thought Jarred was taller than that?

Isn't it also some kind of a spam control? I'd bet there are some idiots out there who make search scripts and stuff just to overload servers.

Couldn't it be reduced to 30 at least? It can get extremely annoying. :(

I have another question. How do you make your username font yellow, to bypass this 60 second rule?

PK-

Searching is probably taxing on the server- bandwidth saved by limiting searches.

yeah i get that too.

One thing I that gets me besides the 60 sec issue is the fact that no words under three letters can be searched. A lot of things (products and such) have only two to three letter names. Maybe do it like google and exclude words like "and" and "the" but not base it on the length of the word.

I've come to realize that the "60 second wait" was established for the following:

One day, DVXuser member "BigPmpn" comes onto the board, wanting to search for "basdass music viedos" DVXuser, knowing that this member is worthless figures it will get him outta here. So BigPmpn searches, but doesnt find what hes looking for, right away, he searches for "cool vidoes wit gurlz" but wait-

This forum requires that you wait 60 seconds between searches. Please try again in 31 seconds.

This makes BigPmpn kinda uneasy...He certainly doesnt like to wait. So he tries again...He searches for "DVX wit chiks vidoe" but again...

This forum requires that you wait 60 seconds between searches. Please try again in 20 seconds.

He continues this process a few more times until he is so aggravated that he sends his computer smashing through his living room window and onto the pavement 28 stories below, nearly decapitating a pizza delivery boy.

Or maybe its so we dont bog down the server...

I have never really had any prob with the search and I know why it helps. but one thing jarred brought up a while back was makind a dvx mobile. I never really had a personal use for it since I don't have a smart phone. but now I find my self using one or a pda or something and it is hard to navagate the site. so I don't know how big of a pain it would be but I do think in this day with prices of phones and pdas coming down I can see more people using it.

BTW what does mobile internet have to do with 60 second search?

(I'm not accusing of hijacking or anything, I'm actually curious.)

I'm pretty sure that it is a bandwidth issue as well as a PHP security measure to prevent misguided and bored youth from overloading/hacking the server.

No, I was just stating that it could be a thing to ad to the site. If you had a mobile version it might be a good idea to not have the 60 sec time for that version since if you are using it on a moble device it is already slower.

It aint broken, no need to fix it... I think it's cool that people make suggestions, but we're all guests here in Jarred's backyard, so why complain that he makes us wait 30 minutes after eating before getting in the pool?
