possible 16:9 solution

I was playing with my dvx and found out that 16:9 looks way better if you turn the squeeze mode on , and then turn on the 16:9.
It actually looks really good.
you just go to camera setup , choose aspect conv. and turn on squeeze and then go to display setup and choose display aspect and choose 16:9 and wow it looks really good!
You can look at the difference if you turn the squeeze mode on and off but keep the 16:9 on , there is a big difference when you turn the squeeze mode on with the 16:9.
It looks great
I have not tried editing it yet but I would like to know the results to my experiment:)

i shot a short film with the B in squeeze mode. I heard all kinds of things about loss of resolution, etc..
Well, on my 51 inch bigscreen and a friend of mine's 41 inch plasma.. the film is gorgeous.
Couldnt be happier.. I was hesitant to shoot in squeeze of all that I heard...and I am so glad that i did...

Was the film you watched on on your friends tv shot in squeeze , 16:9 or 4:3?
I have a 45 inch plasma screen and if your film came out that good I would like to know what aspect you filmed in:)

The 16:9 display setup is for the LCD display only. It won't have any effect on what's recorded on tape -- it'll still be squished if you play it out to a standard TV.

The files will be the same as the squeeze files you've already worked with.

I've shot in SQU often and it looks great. Though it's not true 16:9 it looks rather convincing. Recently shot this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7WtdJm8pvo and screened it on a 49" or 52" --it was some big-ass plasma, and it looked really nice for tape; the resolution held. Though watching it on YouTube won't do it justice it will give you an idea...

How come it does not look squeezed on youtube? I thought if you shoot in squeeze mode and watch in on something that 4:3 then it looks squeezed?

Generally, it's taken care of for you when you render following YouTube guidelines. There's not much you'll have to do manually.

It only appears squeezed on a source that doesn't know it's anamorphic. Most computer players will know.

And it won't matter after you get the footage onto your timeline, be it widescreen (better) or 4:3 (you'll see letterboxing), because however you render, it should take care of the issue for you.
