GH2 Possibilities are endless...Octocopter with Panasonic GH2

I've been a long time visitor since the dvx100/pd150 days and amazed how far we've come. Finally a member I bring endless possibilities
when a GH2 (hacked with Flowmotion v2) is flown with an octocopter, custom built by me. Enjoy.

I created this piece to showcase how useful this tool will offer.

Super nice footage. Very stable and the reflectivity off the water is beautiful. What are your octo components? Were you flying and cam operating?

What he said, lovely footage.

Thank you.
Yes, this shoot I piloted and operated camera using a 14ch controller mapped to a 3-axis camera gimbal for tilt, roll, & pan control, and an hdmi to composite transmitter/receiver downlink to a 7" monitor. My setup allows for a 2-person (my wife) operation with a second controller and monitor.

Its difficult to list my components as I don't like to promote products - octo frame is carbon fiber purchased on ebay (no name/model), Dji Naza-m v2,
Iftron Stinger Pro 5.8ghz TX/RX downlink, Futaba 14sg controller, and 3-axis camera gimbal purchased on ebay (no name/model). Money should never
dictate which products to buy, your build and experience is the key for a safe and reliable setup.

That's more than enough info - and I appreciate you detailing it. I haven't ventured into any copter setups myself, but I am an enthusiastic observer :)
Anyway, thanks for sharing!

Amazing footage, i'd love to see it in full HD quality. I could almost imagine the music from the Shining (Pendarecki) playing instead of the music you chose :-)

Thank you. Krzysztof Penderecki...impressive taste in composers! His work belongs with the greats, I couldn't live with myself if I used any of his scores.

i was using 5.8 but found as soon as tree got in the way, i lost all signal for video.I think my setup now is 1.2 and is much better. I rock a hex but use a gopro black. Love these things. Nice footage.

Has the FAA issued any new regulations allowing use of UAV's for commercial purposes yet?

Thanks. I wouldn't feel safe flying my 13+lbs octo & gh2 behind trees or behind buildings that 1.2ghz gives you and why I chose 5.8ghz, it sets limits. It's too easy to push the limits for that amazing shot and as filmmakers we all put safety first.

Not yet, rumors and FAA statements has predicted 2015. I hope the AP industry gets a separate set of regulations and not blanketed with "drone" use.
I've inquired with Taylor & Taylor insurance and they do not offer any policy for rc aerial filming. I guess insurance companies are waiting for the new FAA guidelines.

well there is, but not new. If you fly for commercial use, including drones, you have to have a commercial pilots license. I remember reading about some company called fly boys ( i think) that got shut down because they didn't have proper lic. A work around, which I do, is I don't "charge" to fly, but charge to edit the footage obtain from flying :)

Just seeing this now. Great footage. Minimal issues typical to rc aerial footage.

Well done. Look forward to seeing more.

Thanks Ryan. I haven't shot anything since the last video. Busy with family and work, tho I do have a location that I've been waiting to film for awhile :engel017:.
I started this thread in hopes of others showcasing their GH1/2/3 aerial work, sooo...feel free to post your video!

You're brave flying a GH2 over water. :bath:

I've seen many a multicopter making an unexpected splash on YouTube. I've bought some floats for mine but it's way down my to-do list to test them out. I just fly with a GoPro for now with plans to go to a Lumix GM1.

You'll get there. I did ziptie noodle floats "just in case" I needed to retrieve it. I didn't want to hurt any fishes :violin:. For smaller aerial rigs the GM1 is a good choice.

I'm just aware that DJI doesn't have effective GPS glitch protection (obviously if flying ATTI this isn't an issue) and doesn't have particularly good software QA so I always think of the worst case scenario. I've got proper RC heli floats, I've also waterproofed the power board, but I must admit I'd still be anxious.
