This is a short, old-timey PBS like portrait of a pharmacist and his pharmacy in Istanbul, Turkey. I shot it as part of this series of portraits on local gems in the neighborhood of Moda, for use by an Artist Residency program called Halka. I'll be the first to admit it's very simple, and perhaps even a bit cheesy, but I find it endearing. Although I suppose that's for others to determine
It it was all handheld and done very quickly on FS700 internal codec (8bit, 24mbps, AVCHD)...Nikon manual lenses.
I dont post my work on Vimeo or YouTube very often, and have been perplexed by the slight color shifts that I notice once I upload to those sites. I've heard plenty about it, but haven't experienced it first hand until now. I'm having a real hard time with it because I manage to get pretty nice colors, specially regarding skin-tone (which is not always easy with the 8bit, 24mbps, AVCHD), but when uploaded, it becomes slightly off and almost sickly. I haven't been able to completely compensate for it yet. I know it's possible because I see the incredible work posted on those sites everyday, so I'll keep trying to figure it out.
It's probably not possible, but I'd love if these sites could provide a chart documenting any color shift effects of their compression settings, so we can easily compensate for them on post. Who knows, maybe even LUTs...haha. I'm half joking here.
Feedback is always welcome.
