Hey all!

I just did a short film and wanted to post it here to get your guys feedback. I am really curious what everyone thinks in terms of camera work, lighting, color, composition, actor performance (Even though the "actor" is just playing himself). Of course if you think it was awesome, that's always nice to hear too :)

Shot on the Sony PMW-F3, Canon 5D Mark 3, and just a couple shots on the Sony A7r.

Don't forget to like it if you actually liked it :P

Thank you!

Hi Omar. I hope this doesn't sound too harsh, but to me the piece feels somewhat overwrought and artificial. Your actor delivers the lines in a way that seems rehearsed or scripted, his actions in the field sometimes come off the same way, and the light on the talking head shot looks hard and unnatural.

Also, I feel that the sentiments expressed could be written by a Hollywood guy who's never met a horse before. "Nothing like having a relationship with these special creatures", "nowhere I'd rather be than with my horses." Where's the funny/insightful/counter-intuitive stuff? ...Which he surely has if he spends all day with horses.

On the upside, I think the bareback element is interesting. I also enjoy the emotional ascent of the running at the end.

For comparison's sake, I think this horse film is something to aspire to: https://vimeo.com/86651195

Thanks for sharing your film and hope this was useful.

Congratulations on making the video, the shots are nice but nothing out of the ordinary, agree with Charlie re the light on the talking head, I do think it could use some more camera movement. You might want to cut a bit earlier at 1:55 where the horse kicks at its stomach. Re content, some people do relate to horses in this sort of emotional way and they would relate and this would appeal, some people experienced with horses just see horses as horses (you ride them, they cost a fortune and can cause you a lot of pain when you get thrown off - me, for example.).

Thank you for the replies guys!

Charliemcdanger, it was not too harsh, I appreciate the honestly. Thank you for sharing the link! I enjoyed that video.

Thanks for the feedback Rainer!

I appreciate the feedback from both of you guys and have taken it to heart for next time.

Thanks!

Omar
