Portable Power source for Camera, Hard Drive, & Laptop

Here is a great product I came across for those looking for portable power for laptops, hard drives, cameras etc. It is the Xantrex XPower Pocket PowerPack 100. It weighs 2.4 lbs and can run a laptop for 2+ hours. Basically a 3.3 Ah NiMh battery pack with a 115 volt inverter function. It also has a powered USB port....don't know the voltage of the port, hopefully it is the standard 5 volts PC's output.

I just bought one and am charging it....plug-in power for an external hard drive for the HVX-200 to offload P2 cards, or run my notebook longer and a small external drive to offload to. Sells for just over CDN $100 on the internet. I actually bought mine a Best Buy, and had them price-match their competitor.

Hope this helps some of those shooting "miles from nowhere", who need flexible power on the go.:) Here's the link to check it out.

Let us know what you think of it and how it works. I've been looking at that product for a while... just not sure about it.

Yes, you can power the HVX....plug in the HVX charger unit into the inverter plug on the Xpower, then attach the "line power" adapter which comes with the HVX to the HVX charger, then to the camera, turn on, voila....portable power for the HVX without a wall socket!

Another option at the same price is to buy that Xantrex 100W inverter alone plus a sealed AGM motorcycle battery with ten times the amount of energy storage. It's also ten times the weight, so it's not so good for "miles from anywhere." I used a motorcycle battery for some farm shoots where I could drive relatively close to the setup, but not close enough to pull off the car battery.

Except you can't charge a motorcycle battery like that? or can you?

Sorry I didn't see your question earlier. I charge the lead acid battery with a battery charger between shoots. I happen to have the "Battery Tender" from DelFan, which I bought at an automotive supply store, but there are others that work too.
