Hi there,

I just came across the whirlwind MD-1 Portable Mic Preamp / line Driver & headphone monitor,

http://www.whirlwindusa.com/md1.html

looks like a nice piece of gear to have, what do you guys think?

It would be nice if you could get something like this that is portable/battery powered that has a built in compressor/limiter. Does any one know of something?

thanks,
Derrick

First, this really is more of a question for the audio forum... you'll get many more replies there.

That said, I've never used the Whirlwind preamp, but there are many others out there that are reliable from companies like Shure and Sound Devices.

Try this: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/292989-REG/Sound_Devices_MM1_MM_1_Single_Channel.html

But depending on your needs, you might be better off with the SoundDevices MixPre... it gives you two preamps, signal routing (L-C-R), limiters, and the all-important meters.

thanks for the info, the MM-1 looks nice for the price, the MixPre looks great, and could be worth the extra price,

thanks again,
Derrick
