Re: Portable DVD player as field monitor?
i use mine for framing only... and at that its not really necessary. i wouldnt use it for exposure at all. the camera has the zebras and marker function to handle expousre. or you should run DV rack on a laptop for correct aspect ration + all the exposure and picture control youll need.
..honestly i dont use the zebra or marker on the camer either though.. i just expose by eye off the LCD. very quick and easy once you get "the eye" for it. just like photography. you just learn the limits and stregths of the camera and medium, and shoot within the limits. without all the maker or zebra stripes on the LCD to distract you from composition and other things or clutter up the screen it becomes a mouch more organic and artistic process that stems naturally from within yourself without any recognition of it being a seperate and scripted process..
that said i used the DVD player for framing and composition when i couldnt be behind the camera. and i needed another moitor to look at that i could seperate from the camera. its nice for having a little "directors monitor" sort of video village thing because its so small and portable, and battery powered and 16:9 or 4:3.. and you can watch DVDs or listen to CDs during breaks.
