Canon have made no announcement

No official announcements but there have been a lot of leaks from Canon reps that something is coming.

Way too many rumors for me to assume there will be nothing.

Also, someone posted this response from Canon support: "... The standard to which the EOS 5D MkII is set to that is sold in the UK is 30fps, which cannot be set to 25fps. Canon is aware of this as suggestions have been made to be able to set this manually and we are working on a functionality upgrade."

At this point I'm convinced something is on the way. But I have been wrong before. Once I think :)

I don't think there will be any firmware update, which is why I'm hoping for the GH1, If I can't afford Scarlet.

Same here, the GH1 is looking better by that day. The good thing is that the 5D will still be a highly desirable stills camera for a while yet, so the second-hand market from the should be fairly healthy.

I'm a grumpy. cynical old git . . .

Also same here ! :zombie_smiley::crybaby:

I've already got a 5D which has plenty of resolution for my modest needs, so no immediate plans for a new stills cam. The 5DII would have been on my hit list if they'd got the movie mode right, but as they haven't...:(
I't's back to wait and see mode now, If Canon do manage to get their act together and give us 24/25p and manual control I may jump, If the GH1's footage looks good and the 25p over 50i isn't too much of a bog-up I may jump there, else it's Scarlet and a huge hole in my bank balance :(

. . . . and the 25p over 50i isn't too much of a bog-up

25p over 50i is absolutely invisible !

All you will ever see is a progressive frame, 25p in a 50i stream requires no pull-down, conversion, de-interlacing or any of that rubbish, it is effectively 25p straight out of the box.

Canon's HV20/30 work like this.

In PAL land of course! :beer:
