Polarizer vs. Post Production

With the exception of increased rendering time, is there any reason why one can not achieve the same effects created by a polariztion filter in post production? If you want to make the sky more blue / increase contrast and vivid colors from outdoor shooting and you didn't shoot with polarizer couldn't this be done in post? Or is it just too much information to render?

In other words when I bring in an 8mb RAW immage from a still camera and want to add these effects it's not too difficult, but what about trying to do the same to several minutes of digital video from the DVX?

Does one HAVE to use a polarizer when shooting in order to get the proper contrast and deeper color or can you just color correct later whith the same net effect?

You can create a similar look but polarizers and ND filters cannot truly be recreated in post. Better to shoot with a real pol in my opinion. Saturating a blue sky is easy in post but that is only one of the effects a polarizer has.

You don't NEED a polarizer when shooting outside. Depends on the situation. It's really situation dependent.

i don´t think the real pol-effect can be done in post.
just try getting the reflections off a window.....
