Polarizer For EX1

Hi All,

Noob here. Would one use a Circular or Linear Polarizer with the EX1 and why? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

You must use a circular pola on this camera or you will get strange color shifts. It has to do with the nature of the prism system Sony uses on the camera. The Sony prism renders more accurate colors and cleaner separation, but also means that you must use a circular pola.

Also keep in mind, the thickness of a polarizer will generally not allow the Sony matte box to be re-attached...and unless you're using another larger mattebox, you'll have to be aware of sun glints, etc.

A slim-mount filter, such as a B+W Slim circular polarizer, will fit under the stock lens shade. You'll usually have to remove the shade to adjust the orientation of the filter, though.

Yes the B & W slim polarizer does work well with the hood.
Adjustment takes removal of hood though.

Does the polariser need to be around 3mm thick to fit?
