GH3 Pocket Rig with the GH3

Anyone have any experience with the pocket rig using it with GH3? I have had some problems with some rigs with the GH cameras not tightening all the way, does this happen with the Pocket Rig? Are you able to easily pull out the screen when the rig is attached? That is another problem I've had with some other baseplates. Also, does the tripod plate securely attach to the rig without any wiggle?

I just received my GH3 and I can pull out the screen without any problems-about the same as pulling out the screen when mounted directly to a tripod. Also I haven't experienced any wiggle issues with the tripod plate.

The GH3 tightens down fully on the Pocket Rig, & has no effect on the LCD.

I use Gitzo's GS5370C Quick Release Plates on my GH3s as they're compatible with Satchler's SideLoad fluid heads, & any of Manfrotto's offerings that accept 501 plates. They're a good fit for the GH & almost perfect fit for the Pocket Rig.

When mounted on sticks the plate can be twisted a bit as the Pocket Rig only has a single 1/4-20 thread, & it's contact area is only slightly larger then the Gitzo plate's. In general this hasn't
been much of an issue, but I don't have experience mounting too much on top, typically only a Lumix X zoom, or m4/3 prime, & Cavision Dual Handgrips (while not fan of Cavision gear, I find these handles great for the Pocket Rig).

Overall I find the Pocket Rig a great piece of kit, especially for handheld work.

Thanks for the responses. Edelkrone also sent me an e-mail response:

Hello Cory,

Thank you for your email and your interest in edelkrone.

I would like to kindly inform you that the GH3 is fully compatible with the pocket rig. Similar to other DSLRs used together with the pocket rig, we have not experienced any problem regarding grip issue. The pocket rig has silicone stickers throughout the surface to grip onto your camera. Please see below image below for a GH2 and pocket rig combo:

I'm trying to make my GH3 rig as compact as possible, so I'll probably pick one of these up. Shame about the tripod plate though. Bern, have you ever used a follow focus with your setup on a tripod? Does the plate movements effect it?

I rarely use a follow focus on anything other than true cine lenses, & haven't tried one with the Pocket Rig, but imagine it wouldn't be an issue.

Purely out of curiosity I did test my Chrosziel matte box on the Rig, & with a GH3 the lens lines up about a 1/4" below center. I'm hoping a compact cage comes to market, & doubles as a shim that would correct this height issue.
