Pocket Cinema Camera - AF100 & Speedbooster thoughts.

The effective sensor on BMPCC is 12.48mm x 7.02mm
And the size of the AF100 is 17.8mm x 10mm

Now with the speedbooster on the pocket camera you get 12.48mm x 7.02mm divided with 0.7 = 17,82 x 10,02 mm field of view.

So if i did my math right the speedboster gets you back on track and makes the pocket camera the perfect companion to AF100?

But what happens with the sharpness and the extra stop on the lenses, will it make the lenses better on the pocket camera compared solely with the glass on AF100 without the speedbooster?

The thing with the Pocket is that it shoots a more robust codec than the AF100. I'm planning on getting one, but I think it'll be awfully goofy for a B cam to have a superior internal codec to my A cam :p

The speedbooster, if and when it ever comes out, will be a must for the Pocket. That is, unless you've got a killer collection of Bolex lenses! (I'm starting a collection myself).

AF100 will be from now on forth be my B-cam ;)

My cam rank:
A-Pocket cam
B-AF100
C-Gopro Hero 3 Black
D-Canon XH-A1

And yeah it has a more robust codec and it has a much better signal processing than AF100

Same here, I think Blackmagic is shaking the industry up, as long as all goes well in July I think they'll have won over a lot of people and pissed off the big boys. The $4K 4K Production camera pretty much kills off any want from me on the 1DC and this Pocket Camera makes me want to shoot for the 16mm look, I'll be doing the same as most, Speedbooster and hanging onto my Lumix glass but I'd also like to make use of the 16mm aesthetic.

Well remember that the raw codec means that you have to take the extra step to grade absolutely everything. You can set up the camera and profiles to speed it up but you still have to do it. Then re-render into an editing codec. It so wonderful to have the almighty Raw format but it does add more work. I would prefer an extra bit in my AF100.

Well yes, I for one is looking forward to grade everything a thousand times :)
I'm googling the **** out of color grading and can't wait to see what speedgrade CS7 can do that resolve can't. And I'm just starting to learn resolve and I love it.

Anyone tried the metabones bm pocket speedbooster on the af100? I've read about the issues with using one on the gh4 and so curious if its at least technically possible to use one on the af100?

From the looks of schematics, the af100 can't use either of the BM Speedboosters because they'd occupy the same space as the ND filter housing

Thanks mcbob. Yeah, I suspected as much. As it transpires, I may have the opportunity to test-fit a pocket speedbooster on my af100 this weekend, so will report back if any success.

Tried it. No success. The back element of the pocket speedbooster protrudes out too far and would definitely hit up against the ND filter housing of the af100.
