PMW320K out

First thoughts:

1: Finally! Great to have this option indeed
2: Can we move on from limiting it to 35Mbps? Canon are offering 50Mbps 4:2:2 on their little handycams now, Panasonic are 4:2:2, time to accept we should have the choice in the unit and not having to bolt on a nanoFlash...
3: Did it have to be this big, smaller please if you can

Well, we actually know a little bit now. The PDF is out here:

http://pro.sony.com/bbsccms/ext/BroadcastandBusiness/minisites/NAB2010/docs/pr_newexcams.pdf

Looks like MSRP is $14800 for the PMW-320K (probably means with a lens)
and MSRP of $12800 for the PMW-320L (probably without a lens)
Of course street prices will be a little less.....

at such prices i would rather bet my money for XDCAM PDW335 such a loser sony as ever with its prices for 320k/l units.

its beensony's style to design one shape & fit in few different technoogies into tit to make diff models & frustrate its buyers & spoile them with confusing choices. when will sony learn to go the panasnic way to strealine its products with one format rcodings rather then like tape/Disk/card HdCam/Sr/MPEGimx...gsh they seem to be very confused company since its inception.

lowband umatic
highban umatic
betacam
betacam sp
betacab sx
digi-beta
dvcam25 (never could dare dream for dvcam50 or even 100 on HD)
hdcam
hdcam-sr
mpegIMX
Xdcam disk
Xdca cards

damn them for being such a crappy company to confuse & ruin prople's investment. they were gr8 till betecamSP s**t happened but there after Panasonic came in with DVCpro 25/50/100 & now P2 cards i guess its such a nice feel to see streamlined product lineup rather then geting boggled up sony way.

i havnt invested into panasonic/sony HD lineups so far i love renting the best pones available & make good for the money saved rather then buying somethign & seeing it geting old after 18months or so withint its warranty period. i am happy for other to invest into sch machines & let us hire & fire the damn products.

For an ENG-camera it is still have one big problem: The Cmos-Sensor and Flashes from Photographers. Even if you can correct it with software, it is unacceptable for ENG-work.
Press conferences is the place were you get flashes from Photographers all the time.
In the not so far future there will be cameras with another Sensor; 4x sensitiver and higher dynamic range and probably no Flash problems whatsoever.
Nikon will be in the market with a full 35mm sensor; a follow-up for the D3s.

If the price for this baby will be around 10.000 it will be compatitive. If not, it will die an honorable dead i.e. it will not be a succesfull market item compared to the new Panas and the new Canos.

this is basically the pmw 350 with 1/2" chips. No comparison to the EX1R.

I tend to agree with NEEL, its more a EX1R in a ENG chassis than a cut down 350. However there are differences and similarities both ways so there is no right or wrong. I think the image performance of the 320 will be closer to that of the EX1R though (almost identical), than the 350

Then roughly (street prices):
EX1R $6300
PMW320 $13-14,000
PMW350 $18,900

So will you pay about double the price for the same image but in a ENG form factor & 4 audio channels, or triple the price for 2/3"...

After seeing the PMW-320 at NAB this week..Nice camera BUT, I'm still convinced my EX1 is the best bang for the buck !!!
