I have done many comparisons between the Ex-1 and HVX200 and DSLR's on good HD monitors. The Ex-1 and its family have incredible resolution that simply blows the others away. The trick is to look at an image that needs resolution - a landscape or a wide shot with lots of detail and look on a monitor that will show it. The other cameras will quickly reveal that they are trying to make up with detail circuits what they lack in resolution and its not pretty. You simply won't find amy cameras sharper than an EX or PMW-200 for 1080 work. In fact one of the reasons that faces tend to look good on the DSLR's is that don't have the resolution to render facial hair and other skin blemishes.
One caveat though is do not shoot the EX or its sisters at any fstop more closed than f8./ Diffraction from the small opening coupled with the small chip will seriously degrade the image. You don't notice this nearly as much on an HVX because the resolution isn't there to begin with.
