PMW-F3 Firmware Upgrade 1.2

There's another firmware upgrade coming for the F3 (1.2), although you'll need the optional s-log to make it work. Apparently it will allow for greater accessibility to IE (indexed exposure values.) Well then, I'll bite. By the way, the upgrade is significantly cheaper from the UK than the US by many hundreds of dollars.

Twitter doesn't exactly fill me with confidence when making announcements, but this is what they say. I wonder what else this update does? I'd like to see the 'auto white balance' button to be accessible from somewhere other than the front of the camera.

Some Picture Profile presets might be useful for s-log?

Links, it appears are not public yet. Sony publishes all this stuff on Twitter. You can pretty much guarantee that within a few hours of the firmware being posted you will see links on this forum.

Some of the new features in the firmware do not require the sLog update.

The word about when is "within the next few days" they will update their websites with the firmware links.

I've heard through the grape vine that there will be a 1.3 version coming afte this that will enable slog 10bit 422 out the "A" port of dual link so you can LUT the standard SDI out. A godsend for us KIpro, PIZ240 users.

Yes, 1.2 and 1.3 soon after. They're certainly toying with F3 owners. I'm sure, if they wanted to, right from the beginning, this camera could've come with s-log as standard, uncompressed 4:4:4 straight to a 1TB SxS card? without the need for external devices (etc.) Canon might release something more spectacular on November 3rd, but I guess the filmic abilities of s-log will still give Sony a winning lead.

WEll yea, it could have but it would have been $31k

16k w/ Log, the SR recorder is 9k, and the 1TB stick is 6,000$.

4.2.2 to output A will suit me just fine. Besides which they beat Red to the punch for Scarlet by nearly a year. Two years ago I would have bought a Scarlet fixed, now, Nope.

That is great ! not too much of an issue waiting as I still didn't received my PIX 240

4:4:4 internal recording has only been achieved by Arri and look at the Alexa's price point. Sony would have killed they're higher end market like the PL9000. I have friends with F35s that are sitting dead in the water! These work arounds were the only way that these high end owner operators and rental houses wouldn't raise a stink!
