PMW-EX3 Strange Color Problem

Hello,
On my previous shoot I recorded a pianist wearing a tux on the Canon XL-H1, the colors were fine. However, on my latest shoot, it was the same location, same pianist, same tux jacket, and part of the jacket is red using the PMW-EX3!!! I have NO idea why the Sony rendered it RED that jacket is totally BLACK. What is going on?

Check out these links!

These are all raw from the camera, 1080i stills, no color correction.

The lighting was EXACTLY the same, and settings for EX3 was the Standard Picture Profile 1 default setting from the camera, I didn't touch any of the contrast settings, or knee settings, kept everything preset just like with the Canon.

Need your guys' help. Defective EX3? But we had four like brand-new from a very reputable rental company. All four had the same red problem.

Can I fix in FCP?

Asaf.

Seems to be a RGB balance problem, in FCP if I adjust the blacks to -40 under REDS using the RGB Balance Video Filter, the red is much less and is more black-like, but sitll VERY annoying!

what is the dreaded infrared issue? where is there an article covering it? can i color-correct this ?

On your posting you did not indicate that you performed a white color balance.

If you did a white color balance did you have the switch set to the preset setting?

I found with the EX3 it is best to have a white balance card and perform a white balance for each lighting situation. Preset does not work for me.

You need an IR filter. There are a number of them now available for the EX3. Red Rock Micro makes one, Schneider Optics (spelling) makes one and someone else I can't remember. But some of them are referred to as a "hot mirror" and other's refer to it as an IR filter. Maybe they are the same thing? dunno....

We're getting our EX3 sometime in January and this is going to be something I watch for because our light kit is a Arri tungsten (3200k) and tungsten is when IR issues are at their worst.

Which of the IR filters (screw-in type) is in a thin mount and can be used under the standard Sony hood?
