PMW-200 - XQD vs SxS Cards

Having just bit the bullet and got a PMW-200 I have this question regarding memory cards.

With my PMW F3 kit I still have a couple of 16GB Sony SxS cards, plus two Wise 32GB SxS cards, ( that have performed great ), but I realise that I will need to increase my memory card "stock", so here's the questions:

I am trying to look for some "economic" solutions and I know that the best option is to use SxS cards but has anyone used the Sony QXD cards with the PMW-200 and if so what if any are the downsides?....And do you have to use the Sony card adapter with these cards or will a "regular" SDHC / SxS card adapter work ok?

Also what about regular SDHC cards, I know that you cannot use them when set to 50mb's output but how do they hold up otherwise?

Lastly perhaps a dumb question but what is the difference between the two formatting options, FAT and UDF?

Thanks!
Peter

Peter,

You might find the XDCAM Essentials video series that I produced for Sony helpful

And, of course, if you want even more information, there is always my 3 hour PMW-200 training DVD that answers a lot of questions you haven't even thought of yet. :-)

Thank you Doug, very useful information.....
I am still testing out the Wise cards with the 200, if they work as well as they have with the F3 then I am tempted to get a couple more of them instead of the Sony's. The Wise cards are cheaper and offer the added convenience of not having to buy / cart around a SxS card reader. I probably will not go the QXD route though, just stick to the SxS type of card because I know that while I still have the F3 the cards can be used seamlessly in either camera.
But so far I do like this 200, a good step up from the EX1-R I used to own prior to buying the F3 but with the same great ergonomics and portability.

If it fits your budget, use SxS cards for maximum safety and security. But if you're willing to accept a little risk, use XQD cards and save half the cost of SxS.
The "S" series XQD cards are approved by Sony for any shooting mode (including 4K and HD @ 240 fps) that the PMW-F55 can dish out, so they can certainly handle anything on the PMW-200.
That's my 2 cents on the subject.
