Plz Critique my HVX shopping list

Stay away from Manfrotto heads unless you are doing still photography.
Pay the extra $$ and get a Sachtler or Cartoni, its well worth it!

Tough budget. To squeeze a few dollars, I'd skip the polarizer for now unless you REALLY need pretty shots of the sky. Or buy a linear for $50. The Pelican 1604 case is great at about $175 (plenty of room for HVX, cleaning kit, batteries, even a Firestore).

I second the vote for Spec Comm -- I bought my HVX there. Fine service and you get the batteries free, saving a few hundred more.

Sound. Definitely the 20mm BBG for the Oktava. For exteriors, Trew Audio has for $308 the K-Tek zeppelin which includes the K-GPS shockmount (http://www.trewaudio.com/store/product.php?productid=758&cat=39&page=1%20). Medium size. You can fit the Oktava in it, and the AT 4073 if you buy that later. Note: the AT is hotter than the Oktava and has a much longer range. That makes the AT better outdoors but difficult indoors.

Cables. I get along fine with an 18" for camera-mount mic work and a 25'. Canare Star-Quad (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=Search&A=details&Q=&sku=194517&is=REG&addedTroughType=search).

Tripod. I've also heard the 501 was rough on pans and tilts, so I splurged for the 519 ($860 at B&H). Works great, but yeah, expensive. And then you need legs... I'm loving my Miller DV Solo, but that's almost as much as the head.

I guess you can get away with renting lights when you need them, but you may be surprised when you get the HVX how much light it eats. Start saving for an Arri softbank kit. After you buy the Cinporter. Can't have the HVX and shoot in SD for long!
