Hi all ..

I'm new to Vegas ,, I created a single image file in photoshop (.PSD extension) and then brought in Vegas. After I do a pan on the image and render the file and save it as mpeg2 or mov formats - the transparency is gone - It puts a white layer behing the image.

What am I doing wrong? Why does it put a white layer behind the image?
Should I save the image frile as JPEG GIF TIFF or else?

I'm pretty much stuck with the work I'm doing - I hope some gentile sould reply with an answer

When I want a transparent part of a still image, I usually work with either .png format, or a targa with alpha channel. I assume it can be done using .psd, but I've not tried that before.

The advantage to .png for me is it just drops in and works. For the targa format with alpha, I have to select that in the clip properties. Try saving your psd as png and import that and see if that doesn't solve the problem for you.

Thanks

It works fine when I bring the PSD image into vegas - I see that the image is transparent - but when I actually do anything with the image - (ZOOm or Pan ) and then render it then the white background layer apperas - So sometrhing during zooming and panning ..

I really donlt think the PNG format would be any different but I give it a go tonight

Cheers

what are you viewing the file in to see a white background? you should exactly what you see in your preview window when you're working with the file.

What are your render settings and is there by chance a piece of white generated media below what you are rendering?

When I drage the file into time line - It looks transparent 0 When I go to the pan & Zoom - It also looks transparent -

I render using the default MEG2 settings. I make no modification. There are no background anywhere in Vegas - So I'm not sure where or when the white layer is placed in the background?

Please let me know if u have any ideas?

are you rendering to a new track?

how are you previewing the clip after render?

You're losing the Alpha channel (transparency) when you render to 24 bits.
Try rendering to .avi uncompressed for further compositing with alpha and your transparency will be preserved.
Hope this helps.

kplo - I'll try that tonight -
As for other recommended methods .
I can certainly see the Alpha Channels as PNG or PSD in the timeline
If I superimpose the image over another track - It looks good and it is transparent - So It may be that when I render it incorrectly that I lose the transparency .. SO I'm goingto trt what KPLO suggested to see if it works
thanks again all
